It’s that time of year – temps are rising and you may be feeling footloose and fancy free. This month here on the blog we’ve been getting inspired by summer and Sizzix dies from Eileen. Summer Fun and an Eileen Hull Craft Along

Hello Eileen Hull fans! June is all about projects that show summer fun plus a chance to have some creative fun with a Craft Along Eileen did on her Facebook page. Eileen’s Sizzix dies are tops for versatility and will make your own projects shine. Let’s take a look at what the Inspiration Team has for us this week. More info about the Craft Along follows!

Designer Jenny Marples created a summer fun card that will make you want to hit the road for camping adventures! She used the 3-D Camper Die (yes, 3-D can also mean 2-D!) plus Flower and Leaf dies to compose this refreshing scene. I love how she used gel plate prints for the card parts – it adds a lovely visual texture and interest to the card. You can find more info on Jenny’s blog post!

Inspired by the sea, Lisa Hoel used the Folio Journal Die to make a stationery folder and filled it with matching cards and envelopes. This would make a great gift and could easily be adapted to any theme! More photos and info can be found on Lisa’s blog so head on over to take a peek.

Summer Fun Craft Along with Eileen…

Recently, Eileen did a Facebook Live Craft Along that was a lot of fun! She showed us how to make an interactive 4” x 6” folder from one sheet of 12” x 12” paper that fits in the Sizzix Pocket Notebook. I know I might have a few extra sheets of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper laying around (ha ha ha). You can still join in with the replay to learn how to make one as well!

Isn’t that fun? You can see a little video of it in action here. If you’d like to gather all your supplies so you can craft along with Eileen, here is what you will need:

4-5 coordinating 12″ x 12″ double sided papers – save one full sheet of paper for the base and use the rest for the pieces. Paper pads work great for this! It fits in the Pocket Notebook Die.

Waterfall & Tags die
10 Waterfall pieces (the one with the score line)
4 Waterfall mat rectangle pieces
2 scalloped border pieces
6 small tags
2 medium tags
2 large tags
10 tag reinforcements

Folio Page, Pocket and Flowers die
7 round pockets (without tabs) from the Folio Page, Pocket and Flowers die from random designs
4″ x 6″ coordinating paper scrap for middle section
Inks – if you want to distress edges, you can do that before we start
Glue
Seam Binding to tie up
Craft knife and self healing mat
Scoreboard and bone folder

Julia Aston created a darling kids’ grab and go activity kit using the Folio Journal. So creative Julia! The Folio opens up to reveal treats and fun things to keep a kiddo busy with on the spot entertainment. The cheerful circus theme compliments the idea perfectly. To me summer also means time in the garden and lots of flowers! Susie Bentz made a delightful card with summer colors and flower embellishments made with the Folio Page, Pocket & Flowers Die Set. This year, summertime means travel time!

Maggi Harding is getting ready to embark on a motorhome adventure out west and made a travel journal to document the trip. She used the Journal XL Die and gorgeous Graphic 45 papers for its construction. (Did I mention I love those papers??) More photos and a video are on Maggi’s blog so don’t miss that!

One of the fun things about making a junk/travel journal is that you can also make all sorts of fun bits to go inside of it. Tonya Trantham created this absolutely fabulous project using a jumbo paperclip and Eileen’s 3-D Camper Trailer Die. Unconventional Materials & Sizzix Wrap Up

We have more projects made with unconventional materials and Eileen Hull’s Sizzix Dies to share with you this week! That is the theme we’ve been working with for this month of May and Eileen also wants to see your projects made with creative materials and her dies. More Unconventional Materials Bonus!

Jenny Marples has a bonus project she made that incorporates the Waterfall & Tags Die Set in an unconventional way. She used the Waterfall flap to cut pages to make a mini book all on its own! I say that is pretty clever! And of course it is full of collage-y mixed media goodness a-la Jenny. You will definitely want to check out her post to see it all and her directions.

Susie Bentz really thought outside of the box with her Harry Potter Monster Book of Monsters ornament. WOW! Fake fur, plastic vampire teeth and eyes are definitely unconventional. What a sensational result! Visit Susie’s blog to see the tutorial with her tips and tricks.

Designer Jenny Marples shares a way to use wooden coffee stirrers to create a flexible journal spine. I think this would be a great technique to take note of and use in your own projects! Of course the journal she created is in the lovely Jenny mixed media style and full of wonderful colors and textures. Head on over to her blog tutorial and see how she constructed it! Recycling used packaging materials is a great way to “craft green”! Maggi Harding embossed the plastic from some packaging to use for the cover of her Passport Book journal. I think you would agree that you’d never guess she used “trash” to create this beautiful cover. Maggi has the directions and photos of the equally wonderful inside pages on her blog so check it out!

Pam Bray created a gorgeous Folio Journal with rice paper! She also used the rice paper to make flower embellishments – the lightweight paper is perfect for full and textural blooms. Her step by step photos and instructions can be found on her blog.

… with materials that is! Yes, it’s a new month with a new theme and May’s is “Unconventional Materials”! It’s time to think outside of the box (or cut up that box). Eileen Hull has challenged her Teams (and you) to create projects that use her dies with materials and substrates you wouldn’t normally think of crafting with. We are expecting to see some very creative makes from everyone so keep your eyes on the blog and join us in the Fan Club to share your projects.

Karen Bearse is starting us off strong with the unconventional material of… beer cans! She made this totally cool Pocket Notebook journal for her husband using the cans from some of his favorite beverages. Wow! She is sharing the Part 1 tutorial for making the cover on her blog now (stay tuned for more).

Wrapping up April with New Sizzix Chapter 2 Dies

Can you believe April is already coming to an end? What a month it has been! We kicked it off with the Release Party for Eileen Hull’s new Sizzix Chapter 2 Dies and a whole boatload of inspiration from the Teams. Each week has brought even more crafty goodness to get your creative juices flowing and we’re wrapping it up with a bang today.

The new Chapter 2 Dies from Eileen:

Front and center are Folio Journal accessory dies – the Waterfall & Tags and Book Binding Thinlits dies. But don’t limit their use only to journals – they work really well on cards and layouts too! And because you can cut as many as you would like, you can add these elements to larger and smaller journals as well.

In addition to the two Thinlits dies, there’s also the new Bigz L Camper 3-D ScoreBoards die just in time for summer travel! Cut two camper pieces and build it into a 3-D container (so much fun to decorate!) or use it on the front of the Folio Journal or card. As always, these dies are super versatile – just waiting for you to put your special touch on them and make them yours.

Our stellar Educator Team has some wonderful projects to share with us! First up is Jennie Atkinson with a lovely Folio Journal make. She has been experimenting with different ways to put the Folio together and shows us how to make it into a wrap journal! Tonya Trantham has been very clever indeed and used the Folio Die to make a landscape format journal! I don’t know about you, but this sparks plenty of ideas in my head. I just think this is a fabulous idea and Tonya has executed it in her signature shabby chic style. This project will have a multi part tutorial so check out the first part on her blog now.
