Old Project, New Twist August Wrap Up with Eileen Hull

27 Aug

The Creative Team designers have really been having fun this month with the theme “Old Project/New Twist”. Designers have drawn inspiration from past projects and reinvented them in a new way. Let’s take a look at the final August project!

Lisa Hoel had started a Wonder Woman themed junk journal years ago using the original Sizzix Journal as the base. She didn’t get very far and this month decided to make a new larger (and finished) one using the Full Size Journal. You can see the whole result here!

The Library Pocket, ATC Card & Tab Die Set is perfect for use in junk journals.

Lisa likes to use the Tiled Alphanumeric Die to make bold backgrounds.

FLASHBACK PROJECTS!

Jenny Marples has these beautiful ocean themed candy containers made using Eileen’s Stacking Drawer Die. You can find all the instructions and more photos here.

They look like wood!

Lisa Hoel created an unusual journal that has a “snippet roll” inside. The base is Eileen’s Handbound Journal and it also showcases the Journal Hardware Die. See all the details in this post.

The inside is full of snippets of embossed paper, lace etc. Postage stamps cut using dies like the Faux Postage and Snail Mail sets make great little bits to include as well.

News from Eileen…

I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s hard to believe we are in the last full week of August and I’m wondering where the summer went. On the other hand, I’m also looking forward to the fall and cooler weather. 🙂

On last week’s live, we made a Reader’s Digest Desk Caddy and I am loving mine! We transformed a vintage book into a desk caddy using the Sizzix Handbound Journal and Stacking Drawers dies – I would love to make a stack of these.

Tuesday Live!

Join Margaret and I for another episode of One Die Two Ways where we spotlight a previously released die and show you new ways to use it! Today we are looking at the Faux Postage Thinlits die – cut from patterned paper, watercolor paper or cardstock to create a postal pane. I hope you can join us for a look at this die…

Eileen Hull Fan Club ATC Swap!

We are doing an ATC SWAP! The swap will begin on September 1.

An artist trading card (ATC) is a tiny piece of original art. It measures strictly 2.5 by 3.5 inches, the exact same size as a standard baseball or trading card. Artists make these small cards to trade or give away for free, rather than to sell.

Here are the guidelines:

  • Size: Must be 2.5 x 3.5 inches to fit standard card collector sheets and sleeves. Each card should have an Eileen Hull product as a focus.
  • Back Details: Please include on the back of the card: your name, date, event, number in series
  • Mediums: Creators use any material they like, including paint, collage, drawing, markers, fabric, and mixed media.
  • Shipping: this ATC can be sent in a standard envelope with regular postage. As long as it weighs less than an ounce, the cost to ship is the price of an .82 stamp. For reasons of economy and time, the swap will pair US with US and international with international.
  • Timeline: Registration opens September 1 and goes till September 10. On September 12, you will receive the name of your swap buddy. You will have until September 29 to mail out your swap.

Eileen Hull Creative Team Projects Reimagined!

19 Aug

The Creative Team theme for August is “Old Project/New Twist”. Designers are drawing inspiration from past projects and reimagining them in a new way! There has been quite a variety so far and we’re excited to see what’s up for this week…

Elizabeth Robinson revamped a Beach House journal she’d previously made and wasn’t happy with. It turned out wonderfully! Check her Instagram to see some flip throughs of the new and improved journal!

Tonya Trantham is sharing a colorful Garden & Seed journal made using the Handbound Journal Die. It is pretty and practical – she has spots to save seed packets and tuck receipts and notes away. You can find details and her tutorial here.

FLASHBACK PROJECTS!

Fall is on the way! Lisa Hoel has a cute decor piece to share made using Eileen’s Stacking Drawer Die. You can see all the details here.

Jenny Marples is sharing a vintage style travel trunk she created with the Treasure Box and Stacking Drawer Dies. Amazing!! See how she did it in this post.

News from Eileen Hull…

Hi friends – I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was spent cleaning and re-organizing with little breaks of crafting in between, while my husband was off on a canoe trip up in Maine. What a disaster! But things are getting put away, sorted and it should be somewhat back to normal by the time he gets home tonight 🙂

In today’s video, I’m cutting up something a little different — and I think you’re going to love the results!

Have you ever noticed the gorgeous artwork on vintage Reader’s Digest Condensed Books? I have one with a really pretty cover that I’ve been saving, just waiting for the right project. Well… today was the day! I figured out how to transform the book into a desk caddy using the Sizzix Handbound Journal and Stacking Drawers dies, and I’ll take you along as I share the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Reader’s Digest book. Head to your local thrift store and look for an old book with a pretty cover, an interesting embossed design, a great color—or even a title that has special meaning to you. The more unique, the better! So grab an old book and let’s give it a whole new life. I hope you’ll love this project as much as I do!

Last week we created a Commonplace Book on the live. This is a book to hold all of your current thoughts – art, sketching, quotes you want to remember, shopping lists, books to read, movies to watch. You can tear out articles from magazines and glue them in or doodle directly in the book. In other words – it’s a free for all – and I LOVE it! This is my kind of journaling. You can see what my book looks like HERE. I used the Journal die to make mine but use whatever you have, or even a pre-made book (but that’s no fun! :-))

August Theme: Old Project, New Twist with Eileen Hull Sizzix Dies

12 Aug

The Creative Team theme for August is “Old Project, New Twist”. Designers are drawing inspiration from past projects and interpreting them in a new way. I’m excited to see what they all come up with! Let’s check out the inspiration so far…

Sarah Lizzie created a beautiful birthday card for her Mum using Eileen’s Stitched Hearts, Page Edges and Nora Numbers Die Sets. That color palette is so lovely! Find all the details here.

Pam Bray used the “old” Treasure Box Die and “new” Garden Gate Album Die to create a box filled with wonderful floral tags! You can find the tutorial in her post.

Jennie Atkinson just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary! She took an old tag project she had made and reinvented it as a celebratory heart using Eileen’s Stitched Hearts Die Set and Lace Embossing Folder. Beautiful! (and congratulations to Jennie and Terry)

Lisa Hoel is revisiting a UFO project from six years ago. She is making a new Wonder Woman themed junk journal in a larger size by using the Full Size Journal Die instead of the original Journal Die she had started with. This is Part 1 of the project – the cover, details here! Stay tuned for more…

FLASHBACK PROJECT!

Lisa also has some summertime 3-D Truck and Camper Die inspiration for you! She made tag journals about all the family camping trips they’ve taken over the years and the camper and truck are perfect holders for them. You can see all the details here.

NEWS from Eileen…

Last Wednesday I took off for CT to watch four of my grandkids, their two dogs, chickens, turkeys, lizard and new bunny. It was a busy week and a LOT of driving, but so worth it. We don’t see them a lot because of the distance but for those few days, I got a snapshot of their lives and it was so fun to be part of it. Then my husband tag-teamed me and stayed and I took off to see my Mom in NY with a stop to see my Aunt Ann who lives along the way. Mom is doing well and will be celebrating her 92nd birthday next week.

Yesterday I learned my friend Marla had lost her fight with pancreatic cancer. We had such a nice visit back in June. She will be so missed – she was a bright light in my life and it’s hard to believe she is really gone.

ART THERAPY TIME

I just learned what goes into a Commonplace Book and I am dying to make one! I decided to use my Sizzix Journal die but really any size will work. You can watch last week’s video HERE. I considered using the Field Notes & Specimen Card die cover that we created on last week’s live, but wanted to make it bigger and in portrait orientation.

We will make a simple cover (maybe fabric?) and concentrate on the pages. Do white pages intimidate you? l’ll show some options to remedy that and also a few ways this book could be laid out. Join me to hear all about it!

Am I CRAZY?

I am going to try and do a reel every day in August on Instagram and Facebook. OK, turns out yes, I am crazy 🙂 It’s hard to do while on the road and still get sleep. But I am back home and will try again!

Remember, I’ll have a booth at the Garlic Festival in Saugerties, N.Y. coming up the last weekend in September. If you live nearby, please come and say hi!

Eileen Hull’s Let’s Get Sewing April Wrap Up!

1 May

It’s time to wrap up our April theme of “Let’s Get Sewing!” The Creative Team has explored all sorts of creative ways to use Eileen’s dies with sewing and stitching. Let’s see what inspiration the Team has for us this week:

Madeline Arendt used Eileen’s Notebook Die to make a credit card holder that is easy to tuck into a pocket or your purse. So clever! She used fabric, paper and fusible interfacing in its construction. More details and tutorial here!

Sue Eldred shows you how to make your own pocket sewing kit using the Needle Book Die and felt. This would make a great little Mother’s Day present! Find the instructions here.

April’s “Let’s Get Sewing!” round up video…

News from Eileen…

Hi friends – thank you so much for your kind responses to my video/announcements last week. You are very special to me and I am comforted to know you guys have my back.

Eileen Live!

Today it’s time for One Die Three Ways! I am excited to be creating with Margaret and Teresita! We will each be creating with the Waterfall & Tags die set, which is a must have if you are a journaler. I love to craft with friends because it’s fun to see how other crafters, craft! I hope you will craft along with us at home, then share it in the Fan Club so we can see your version! If you don’t have the featured die, you can find it here:

MORE ideas for the Waterfall & Tags Die Set:

Here are a few flashback projects made using the Waterfall & Tags Die Set that Eileen and crew will be working with on the live. It’s always good to get more inspiration and that is a versatile die set!

Jenny Marples used them to make journaling/photo spots in this journal:

Lisa Hoel integrated them into her journal pages and hid surprises underneath. You can see more in her post here.

Eileen Hull on the road!

This time next week, I will be on the road to Chicago to go to the H + H Americas show, a trade show for the fiber/stitching/sewing industry. I’ll also be meeting up with creative friends to put our heads together and see how we might fit in here. If the internet is cooperating, I will do a video so you can see what it’s all about!

On Saturday, May 9, I am headed to One Paper Place in Frankfort, IL to teach this Watercolor Garden Gate Album (die coming soon!) You will also learn lots of techniques, have fun and get a tour of Daisy! If you live nearby, tell your family you want this for a Mother’s Day gift 🙂 REGISTER HERE

DAISY Update!

It took a while to shake that flu we had last week but we managed to break free and dive back into the renovating of Daisy. Hayward got the benches done and our friend and neighbor, Joe, made a beautiful scalloped shelf for over my desk and it is perfect! She is looking really good – tonight I finished painting and am ready to move on to decorating.

I found an unopened 3″ memory foam pad in the barn and after a day of expanding, it looks nice and fluffy. I am hoping I can use it for cushions on the benches – stay tuned…

THE TINY HAND TOTE BAGS HAVE ARRIVED!!!

Remember, if you order the May Die Bundle, you will get one free with your order!

April’s “Let’s Get Sewing” project inspiration!

23 Apr

The Creative Team might be exploring textiles, paper, mixed media, slow stitching, machine stitching, faux stitching… there are so many ways to create within this theme using Eileen’s dies. Let’s see what inspiration the Team has for us this week:

Lisa Hoel sewed these cute pillows for Eileen to use as decor in Daisy the trailer. The woven heart and tongues on the larger pillow were made using her Tunnel Arches Die Set. More details here!

Jenny Marples created these beautiful color wheel journal pages using the Swatch Card Stamp Set, Windowsill Vase & Flowers Die Set and Home Sweet Home Die Set. Catch her reel on Instagram to see more!

Elizabeth Robinson added this sweet little stitched felt element to the cover of a journal. Loving all those little details! You can take a closer look here. (Home Sweet Home Die Set, Tunnel Arches Die Set)

News from Eileen Hull:

Hi friends – I wanted to let you know about some things that have been going on in my life behind the scenes and I’m going to lay it all out there in this video, so I hope you can join me.

And after we do that, let’s get back to making! For some reason the Floral Bookmark & Pocket set was laying on my table and I had a new idea for a new way to use it! You can find it here in case you don’t have it.

If you missed the Craft Along last week, it turned out to be a fun one! You can watch by clicking the graphic below!

Daisy the Trailer update!

My husband is working every spare minute to get this trailer up and ready for the road. Last week the paneling went up and now he is working on building the benches! It’s so exciting to watch Daisy take shape! I have so many decorating ideas but not enough time to do them all.

More news from Eileen…

DAISY UPDATE

Last week was spent on wiring the camper – I can’t even tell you how many trips to Home Depot we made to get just the right screw, wire, bolt or tool to get the job done. But last Friday night, it was done. We found a bag of insulation that Bill, the previous owner, had sent along. He had saved the original insulation and it was trimmed out and ready to be installed, so we taped it up and are now prepping tthe wallboard. Once that’s done, it’s time for benches and built ins. But I’m supposed to leave in three weeks and I need to decorate! Stay tuned…
