Old Project, New Twist August Wrap Up with Eileen Hull

27 Aug

The Creative Team designers have really been having fun this month with the theme “Old Project/New Twist”. Designers have drawn inspiration from past projects and reinvented them in a new way. Let’s take a look at the final August project!

Lisa Hoel had started a Wonder Woman themed junk journal years ago using the original Sizzix Journal as the base. She didn’t get very far and this month decided to make a new larger (and finished) one using the Full Size Journal. You can see the whole result here!

The Library Pocket, ATC Card & Tab Die Set is perfect for use in junk journals.

Lisa likes to use the Tiled Alphanumeric Die to make bold backgrounds.

FLASHBACK PROJECTS!

Jenny Marples has these beautiful ocean themed candy containers made using Eileen’s Stacking Drawer Die. You can find all the instructions and more photos here.

They look like wood!

Lisa Hoel created an unusual journal that has a “snippet roll” inside. The base is Eileen’s Handbound Journal and it also showcases the Journal Hardware Die. See all the details in this post.

The inside is full of snippets of embossed paper, lace etc. Postage stamps cut using dies like the Faux Postage and Snail Mail sets make great little bits to include as well.

News from Eileen…

I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s hard to believe we are in the last full week of August and I’m wondering where the summer went. On the other hand, I’m also looking forward to the fall and cooler weather. 🙂

On last week’s live, we made a Reader’s Digest Desk Caddy and I am loving mine! We transformed a vintage book into a desk caddy using the Sizzix Handbound Journal and Stacking Drawers dies – I would love to make a stack of these.

Tuesday Live!

Join Margaret and I for another episode of One Die Two Ways where we spotlight a previously released die and show you new ways to use it! Today we are looking at the Faux Postage Thinlits die – cut from patterned paper, watercolor paper or cardstock to create a postal pane. I hope you can join us for a look at this die…

Eileen Hull Fan Club ATC Swap!

We are doing an ATC SWAP! The swap will begin on September 1.

An artist trading card (ATC) is a tiny piece of original art. It measures strictly 2.5 by 3.5 inches, the exact same size as a standard baseball or trading card. Artists make these small cards to trade or give away for free, rather than to sell.

Here are the guidelines:

  • Size: Must be 2.5 x 3.5 inches to fit standard card collector sheets and sleeves. Each card should have an Eileen Hull product as a focus.
  • Back Details: Please include on the back of the card: your name, date, event, number in series
  • Mediums: Creators use any material they like, including paint, collage, drawing, markers, fabric, and mixed media.
  • Shipping: this ATC can be sent in a standard envelope with regular postage. As long as it weighs less than an ounce, the cost to ship is the price of an .82 stamp. For reasons of economy and time, the swap will pair US with US and international with international.
  • Timeline: Registration opens September 1 and goes till September 10. On September 12, you will receive the name of your swap buddy. You will have until September 29 to mail out your swap.

Spring project inspiration from the Creative Team

This month the Creative Team designers are being inspired by SPRING! It’s time to create projects that celebrate the new season – from spring home decor to cards and albums. Any of Eileen’s past dies and products are fair game so let’s see what projects we have to share this week…

Maggi Harding created a scrapbook page layout highlighting a recent trip she made to Antarctica. She used the Floral Pocket & Paperclips and Alphanumeric Thinlits Die Sets plus the Plate & Pattern Layered Stencil Set. So cool! 😉

Tonya Trantham dressed up a pre-made notepad with Eileen’s dies and embossing folders. This is a great gift idea (Mother’s Day is coming!) Get a closer look in her post. Dies used: Floral Pocket & Paperclips, Bookmark, Pockets & Toppers, and the Floral Damask Embossing Folder.

Spring of course celebrates all things green and growing! Elizabeth Robinson made this lovely nature inspired junk journal using the Mini Album Die. Each page inside is a treat so head on over to her post to see it all.

Pressing On – Getting Organized in 2025

14 Jan

Hi friends, Eileen here. I don’t know about you but I am finally serious about getting my studio cleaned up and organized – it feels so good to finally start! Thanks to all who have been posting their BEFORE and AFTER pics of your creative spaces for our Tidy Up 2025 Challenge in the Fan Club! Even just picking out a tiny space to work on is so satisfying, you may find yourself tackling larger areas – who knows!

It is so comforting to know that I are not alone and that others are struggling with the same issues as me! As you may recall, I started shoveling cleaning out the studio in order to be ready for my video on January 26. It all started with my friend Cara Brandon‘s invitation to join her and Dana K. White’s Declutter & Get Organized collaboration. Click HERE to see the calendar and links to all of the other crafters that are part of this event – so many good tips and ideas! Love seeing how everyone approaches organizing in a different way – but the important thing is for you to make your space work for you.

If you have been watching my lives, I have done several posts showing how to create a Bespoke (custom) journal. I need to use mine! So we will be finishing it up today on the live…

I am using the Journal die – you can find it HERE in my Etsy shop if you don’t have it already. Of course, if you don’t have that one, use one you have! Here are the links to this week’s videos – just click on the graphic and it will take you right to the event. In case you missed them, here are links to: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 …

On Thursday, it’s time for our monthly Realeather Crafting episode. We will be creating Cord Wraps for all those electronic charger cords and I’ll be sharing how to use the Snap Setter Kit – a very handy tool to have! Get your leather out and let’s make some Valentine gifts for family and friends!

Projects from the Inspiration Team…

This month the project theme for the Inspiration Team is “Friendship”. All of Eileen’s products are fair game for the designers to use. Take a moment to sort through your Eileen Hull stash and see what inspires you! Don’t let it distract you from your organizing though. (wink wink)

First up is Maggi Harding with a beautiful Valentine’s card! She used various Thinlits Die Sets (Floral Pocket & Paperclips, Tiled Alphanumeric and others) plus the gorgeous Floral Damask Embossing Folder. See the details on her blog and in the video.

Pam Bray created another cheerful card that is perfect to send to a friend! She used the Damask Embossing Folder, Fan Favorite Stamps, Plate & Pattern Stencil Set and the Bookmark, Pockets & Toppers Die Set. Check it out on her blog!

We have a final card for the week created by Sarah Lizzie. It’s a beautiful friendship card for a milestone birthday. She used the Tiled Alphanumeric and Wreath & Snowflake Die Sets to highlight the special day.

Classes with Eileen!

On January 31 – February 26, Eileen will be traveling to Florida to teach two full days of classes at Crafting at the Nest! If you live anywhere nearby, I hope you can join us!

Spring Colors – Seasonal Inspiration Using Eileen Hull’s Sizzix Dies

18 Apr

Spring colors are on full display outside as well as on the desks of our designers! They are creating inspiring projects for the season drawing from all of Eileen’s past Sizzix dies and products. Like a warm spring breeze, let this week’s inspiration carry you away…

Elizabeth Robinson made a lovely little Mini Book full of butterflies and flowers. Faux Postage stamp bits accent the graphic elements perfectly. So pretty! See all the details and many more photos over on Elizabeth’s blog.
