Michelle Zerull starts us off with two gorgeous Paper Flower Party Projects!  First, we have an oh-so-lovely gift topper created using my new Pansy Die.  Those soft colors and hand painted elements really POP against the glittering silver ribbon and wrap.  Michelle added a beautiful rhinestone center for extra sparkle.  I don’t know about you but I would have a hard time opening a gift this gorgeous!

Featured Inspiration Team Member Tracy Evans

7 Apr

Hey there creative friends!  We’ve all been inspired by the amazing creativity the Inspiration Team has shared with us over the years.  I thought it would be fun for all of us to get to know the IT members better and find out what makes their creative hearts tick.  Our first featured Inspiration Team Member is Tracy Evans!  Come along and let’s take a look inside the creative world of Tracy Evans….

Featured Eileen Hull Inspiration Team Member Tracy Evans

Let’s find out what inspires Tracy Evans to create her amazing artwork with a little Q & A.  Many artists have been interviewed with this questionnaire along the Paper Trail.  Have a look at what Tracy had to say…

Q: How did you come to be a member of the Inspiration Team?

A:  I applied to the Design Team call and was absolutely delighted when I was asked to join some weeks later. It’s not often that a Design Team call occurs that really ignites a creative passion. The combination of Eileen’s design ideas and the Sizzix label was a must for me especially being a Bigz and Scoreboard Die fanatic.

Q: What would you like Eileen Hull Readers to know about you?

A: That I am passionate about what I do; I love to create, love the journey and the process!

Crafting for me is 100% about enjoying the process; I love to experiment and use products in different ways; particularly dies, that’s why I was thrilled to join Eileen’s team.

I am impatient, impulsive, passionate in everything I do.  Being impatient is probably not a good thing when it comes to being creative but this translates more so in that I get excited to try new techniques but I am impatient waiting for things to dry; wanting to move onto the next step! Impatient waiting for new products! Impatient wanting to try something NOW and not tomorrow! I am passionate about creating and love experimenting with new and old products alike and if I inspire others along my journey then that’s an added bonus. I often don’t think things through; very impulsive, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but that’s what the journey is all about for me!

The days of smart suits, designer dresses, matching shoes and smart attire have been replaced with PJ’s, ink stained manicured fingers, and paint splattered hair; but hey I love it!!!

On a personal note I adore gardening; in fact it is my first passion and I love to spend many hours pondering outdoors and often find inspiration for my creations in the garden.

I am married with two children and one black Pug, Mitzi who I adore, she is my companion, along with my family of course. I will be adding to my family shortly with a second pug pup who will be keeping me busy over the next few months but I will always carve a gap somewhere into my schedule to be creative indoors and outdoors,  it’s in my genes!

Q: What do you like about working with Eileen Hull Sizzix Dies?

A: The endless possibilities a die offers; the challenge to transfer the cut into a creative piece.

Q: What was the first Craft Supply you ever bought? (Crayola Crayons don’t count)

A: Ha ha ha!  Now this question did make me chuckle! As if I went into a store and purchased one craft supply…..not a chance! My first fore into crafting was actually a workshop; a stamping workshop. I walked out of that room filled with enthusiasm and within twenty minutes I had filled a basket! In fact I opened a shop of my own six weeks later! I had 9 fun filled years in that shop before I decided I wanted more creative time rather than shuffling paper!!

Q: What are your favorite craft supplies to use together?

A: It has to be the combination of Dies, Stamps, Inks and Paint. So much potential in  those four key ingredients oh and of course inspiration and enthusiasm to boot!

Q: What’s your favorite Color Palette?

A: At the moment I would say Turquoise with splashes of red. Ask me next week though and it will be entirely different. So I suppose  the true answer is “the one I am using now”!

Q: Do you believe in Glitter?

A: I am not a big Glitter girl but never say never; there is room for everything in this business especially if its rusty glitter lol.

"Tinytopia" Mixed-Media Houses by Tracy Evans

Q: What creative medium have you always wanted to try but haven’t?

A: Caran D’ache Neocolour 11 Water Soluble Crayons. In fact I have a box of 126 on my shelf in preparation; just waiting for that special moment!

Q: If you could interview any Artist (living or dead) who would it be?

A: Today at this moment it would be ‘Banksy’ , the English based Graffiti artist just so that I could ask him what inspires him? I would love to know what makes this artist tick!

Q: What’s your favorite Creative Quote?

A: Has to be “Enjoy the Journey”

Karen Bearse Shares her Sizzix Grungy Art Journal

1 Apr

Happy Spring everyone! I am very happy to welcome my friend, neighbor and fellow Paper Trailer to the blog today. Karen Bearse shares her Sizzix Grungy Art Journal with us and I am very excited to share yet another way you can use this Passport Book die!

You may remember that Karen was a passenger on our trip this summer to park Scotty at the Paper Arts Show- read about it here, here and here… boy did we run into some adventures… some not so fun.

Karen-Bearse-Shares-her-Sizzix-Grungy-Art-Journal

But everything worked out fine, thankfully! Now, I know you want to see this… so take it away Karen…

Grungy Art Journal Passport Style

Hi out there in blogland! Karen Bearse here using some of Eileen’s awesome dies. Inspiration is a funny thing. When I am in creation mode I find inspiration all over and never know when it will hit. A few months ago I was at my local scrapbook store and saw this metal clasp. Immediately the idea to double the space in the Passport Book of Eileen’s struck. I had so much fun making this book. Made the book in a day & you can too! Grab a cup of coffee, follow along & I will give you a detailed look into how it was put together. If all the inky stuff is daunting just use mat board, covered in scrapbook paper instead! Trust me you can do this!

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-1

Here is the money shot. It is shiny and grungy and I LOVE it! There is lots of great journal space in it and a few design ideas to make working in it easier.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-2

First cut 2 passport covers from corrugated cardboard. Using the Sizzix mat board cut 2 spines. Cut a piece of mat board for the back cover, mine is “5×7 1/4”.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-3

Cover both sides of the back cover with scrapbook paper. I made a paper pocket on the inside to put some tags or ephemera in. Cut 1 spine in adhesive lined scrapbook paper. This will be the inside right spine.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-4

Time to decorate the cover. Tear pieces out of the top paper on the corrugated covers. Be careful not to tear through but if you do a little it is ok these pieces will be reinforced. Add a thin coat of gesso, dry. Stamp randomly using color blend ink, dry. Cover in various colors of Glimmer Glam. One of the reasons I like Glam for this is the glitter. The second it acts like a glaze and leaves a shiny, glossy finish but also adds strength to the project. Cover the outside of the spines in the same way – but no need to gesso. Paint a layer of Glam on the inside of one spine. This will be the left spine of the book. Attach your adhesive scrapbook paper to the other inside piece.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-5

You will need 3 signatures for your art journal. For each signature I used 4 pieces of paper & a big Ranger tag size #12. The side of the tags need to be trimmed to 4 ¾’. For paper I used 2 pieces of RENDR, 1 piece of watercolor and 1 piece of canvas paper. Cut paper 4 ¾ x 14”. Fold in half and using an awl poke 2 holes, use the mat spine piece to line up the holes. Stack your papers inside each other for each signature. Set aside.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-6

Time to assemble the book! Glue the spines- You have a choice to either glue the spines on the outside or inside pieces of your covers. I attached mine to the outside. I used glossy accents for this step as it is good and strong. Remember to keep the scrap paper spine on the right hand side. Start with the front covers and glue together holding the pieces together for a few minutes, than attach to hold. I let them sit for an hour. Next add the spines to the back piece and clip to hold as in the photo. I put the book aside a few hours to let the glue set more before sewing in the signatures.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-7

Use wax linen and thread from the inside, holes of first signature and though the first set of holes in the left side spine. If you want you can add beads to the thread before tying off the threads. Make sure they are taut and hold the signatures in well. Do the same for signatures 2 & 3.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-8

I decided to add beads to the right side spine of the book also, using thin wire. Now that the book is together time to decorate the cover. I colored some chippies from Southern Ridge Trading Company using Color Blends ink and covered with a layer of clear embossing. I added my metal clasp.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-9

I made a flower using Eileen’s flower dies- cutting from book pages and spritzing with glimmer mist and painting on glimmer glam. Ah shiny. My first attempt was a little weak. You can see it in the photo where I added die cuts of Sizzix new paper leather and totally random fabrics. I again painted the new die cuts and stacked a random bunch together. Much better! The center is micro beads. I adhered my flower using Velcro so it is removable when I work in my book, making it easier to art journal.

grungy-art-journal-passport-karenbearse.blogspot.com-10

Here is a close up of the flower. Don’t over think it just add a bunch of stuff and voila!  I also added a cut coin envelope to the inside left hand side cover, which had been distressed like the front cover. Now I have somewhere to put cut out stamped images or stickers… I think once I finish my journal I will add more to the cover but for now it is fine. Making this book was awesome and I see myself playing with this layout again soon! Thanks to Eileen Hull for making such great dies and the opportunity to blog for her!!!!
