Hello, Lisa Hoel here. Well I’m a day late and a dollar short but gosh golly I am taking over Eileen’s blog! I figure she is still jet lagged from her UK Paper Trails trip so she won’t notice me sneaking around over here. 😉 I created a fall garden journal using a ton of Eileen’s different dies and also her Molten Dimensions Embossing Powders.

How to Make it!

The Journal Die (biggest one) serves as the main cover. Then when you open it…

Inside I used the Notebook Die as well as the Giftcard Folder & Label 2 Die. (Save the seeds from your annuals!!)

Paper Trail 15 Schedule

Yes, this is happening- here is the Paper Trail 15 schedule!

In 2013, I bought a 1976 Serro Scotty trailer on eBay. I decided to outfit the trailer as a mobile studio and teach classes in craft stores across the country. My first trip from Virginia to California went amazingly well and I was hooked on travel teaching. And so the Paper Trail was born…

On September 7, I begin my fifteenth Paper Trail journey! I am headed from Virginia to Calgary, Canada, then all down the west coast and back toward home- arriving November 7 (God willing!) Please join me on the trip and follow along on social media.

Sizzix Journal Paper Trail Planner

I am gearing up for another trip in my vintage camper Scotty! And I need something to keep me organized so I made this Sizzix Journal Paper Trail Planner…

Fabric designer Kelly Panacci sent me this fabric after I commented on it on Instagram. Trailers have become my “thing” in the past few years and I love the adorable vintage images on this fabric collection. The spine on my new Paper Trail planner was reinforced and made larger to allow for a bigger book to include all the info I need in one spot for a long road trip!

Materials:

Sizzix Matboard package, white
Therm O Web Easy Cut Adhesive Sheets- 6” x 12”
Road Trip fabric by Kelly Panacci- fat quarters
Brown packing paper sheets
Charms, bead chain
Elastic- round 1.5 mm x 24” and flat 1/4” x 10”
Wood slice- 2”
Sizzix Recipe Card & Label

The charms were a gift from Megan at Blue Moon Beads.

Instructions:

Cover both sides of a sheet of mat board with adhesive sheets. Remove release paper from one side. Place fabric on top of the adhesive starting on one end and smoothing across to the other end. Remove release paper from the other side of matboard and place solid color paper over adhesive. Run both mat board pieces through Big Shot with fabric side facing the die.
Repeat with another sheet of mat board TIP: With directional fabric and paper, flip second cover in the opposite direction from the first when die cutting so that both prints are running in the same direction.
Turn covers so both binding strips butt up to each other in the middle. Cut a piece of mat board 8 3/4” x 1 1/4” as reinforcement binding strip. Center strip under the binding and mark each hole. Punch matching holes in binding strip. Glue mat board to binding on the inside of the cover to strengthen spine. Secure with binder clips and allow to dry.
There are four sets of holes instead of three and a wider spine than if the Journal was bound in the traditional way. More elastic may be added for additional inserts.

My Paper Trail Planner

The book has a section for mileage, expenses, maps, photos and a plastic pocket for receipts.

I stay in the Choice Hotel chains because I get points- sometimes stay 2 nights get one night free!

I made this label and then realized that I stamped the “a” upside down. I thought about re-doing it, but then decided it was kind of fitting. There are always mistakes and adventures along the way 🙂

Sizzix Heartfelt Fabric Journal

Dig into your fabric stash and make this Sizzix Heartfelt Fabric Journal! All you need to make the Journal cover is a fat quarter and some ThermoWeb Foam Adhesive.

This is such a fun way to use up your fat quarters and at the same time create a pretty journal to give or use! I did a Facebook Live video showing how I made mine- see it here:

Making this project makes me realize how much I love fabric- guess that explains why I have been collecting it forever! So happy there is finally a quick, easy, pretty and practical way to use it 🙂

The Paper Trail

I hope you will join me when I leave on September 7. Scotty, my vintage trailer, and I are headed north to Calgary, Alberta in Canada. This will be our second international trip and I will be gone for two months teaching and traveling. I say you should join me. But you don’t actually have to go- you can watch on line and see what is happening throughout the trip. Some days on the road I wish I was home in my recliner watching TV. But then I think of all the great people I will meet and the adventures I will have and am glad I went… Anyway, I would love for you to ride along- just follow me on my Instagram and Facebook pages 🙂

This book was so much fun I made two- the extra one I gave one to my friend’s daughter who was getting married. I tucked their wedding check inside an envelope attached in the book. Such a fun party they had!

I am gearing up for the Paper Trail 15. I need to figure out how many total miles I have driven on all Paper Trail trips but what notebook did I keep track of the mileage in? If only I had kept the info in a handy Traveler’s Notebook… 🙂

Visit the Creativation Cafe…

On January 19-23rd, the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) show, re-branded as Creativation, will open in Phoenix, AZ. This is a trade show where the newest craft products are on display for all to see, touch and drool over. Visit the Creativation Cafe (Booth #843/1042) for free Make & Takes taught by talented professional CHA Designers! This event is open to store owners, retailers, press and other attendees and will be open throughout the show.

The anchor of the Creativation Cafe is my 1976 Scotty camper. We are making the trip out to AZ on Paper Trail 11 and driving it right onto the show floor! *I set up last year but that was in Anaheim so it will be fun learning the ropes in a new venue (?)

I always breathe a sigh of relief when the awning is up! That thing is surprisingly heavy.

Getting there…

…and open for business!

Please stop by and make some of the awesome projects- there will be two Make & Takes going on at a time, so grab a seat and have some fun! You will leave with a cool new make and probably a new friend or two. This is where it’s happening, folks! Last year we had lines down the aisle….

Not only will we have Make & Takes but Designer Ambassadors have volunteered to help in the booth to answer questions and show you around.

You never know what will be happening next! Also pay no attention to that mess in the background. It was off camera 🙂
