Pam Bray has created a terrifying trio of treat containers.  Pam’s creations use a different die for each base and can be used to hold a variety of candies to hand out to little goblin’s and ghouls.  First, we have a Jack-O-Lantern Trinket Box Treat Holder enhanced with Authentique papers, Therm-O-Web Deco Foil, and my Colorbox Blends.

The Sizzix die that we all created with was the Wrapped Journal, part of my Book Club Chapter Two collection. The great thing about this die is that it will cut and score thick material like matboard and chipboard, to create a nice sturdy book- a blank canvas that you can imprint with your own style and choice of materials and mediums. There are a multitude of ways this die can be used and so many materials you can cut -pretty much anything you can cut with scissors.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the earthy tones of my potting shed for this project and took my photos of my Journal in it.

These are the products I used…

to make this!

The paint color I used was called Mud Splat by Paper Artsy Seth Apter. I liked how was translucent it was. When I painted the Journal and overlapped the strokes, it reminded me of wood- so cool!. I used the Sizzix Journaling Cards- Flowers and Leaves die cut from a piece of Superstock with ThermOWeb Easy Cut Sheets on the front to create the focal image. 

I removed the release sheet from three of the flowers and put Chunky Rust, peeled off another few flowers and added Fractured Ice and finished off with Oil Rubbed Bronze for the rest of the flowers. I then heated the powders with my heat tool. Finally I peeled the last layer of adhesive off and added Fresh Fallen Snow then heated again. I have always used ink to secure the embossing powder so using the ThermOWeb Easy Cut Sheets was an experiment that worked out fine! I think the edges of the flowers were better defined using this method.

Usually I use 1 mm. elastic cord to bind my books, but this time I used hair elastics. I cut slits in the binding holes to the edge of the book. I didn’t have to tie anything, just slipped the elastics around the cover of the book and into the holes. A shout out to Russell from Neu Scrapbooking who gave me the idea! To finish off the cover panel, I added Emerald Creek brads to the centers of some of the flowers.

The insert books were made using mini-composition books found in the Dollar Tree. I covered the outer covers with old dictionary pages and colored them with my Clearsnap ColorBox Blends inks. I also used some of my new Sizzix Journaling Words dies. To finish it off, I added Emerald Creek brads to some of the flower centers.

To add inserts to the book, open to the center pages and slip the book into the elastic binding so the cord is in the middle of the book and holding it together.

I made tabs from folded over book pages and added them to the side for a pen holder. Because what good is a journal without a pen?

I need to clean my shed and get all those leaves out of there!

Stenciled Embossed Journal

Hi everyone- I am so excited and honored to be part of the Stencil Girl/Emerald Creek Blog Hop and am sharing my Stenciled Embossed Journal!

I was sent some gorgeous stencils and intriguing powders, charms and brads. The challenge was for each designer to combine these products in a unique way and I love that!

My thought always turns toward making books because there is so much you can do with them. I decided to use this gorgeous allover stencil by Janet Joehlin using my ColorBox Blends inks from Clearsnap and add them to my new Sizzix Wrapped Journal.

I die cut the Journal from matboard as this is a ScoreBoards die- designed to cut and score thick material like matboard- anything up to 1/16″. I love working with matboard as it gives a rigidity and structure to books, boxes and folders.

In the journey of creating, plans for what I pictured happening changed 🙂 You know what I mean… I started by tracing the stencil with a Pigma pen- I wanted to give definition to the edges of the stencil pattern.

Then I dragged streaks of Stop, Sunshine, Tutu and Golden Blends inks down the Journal cover

Here’s the front Journal cover.

After positioning the stencil on top, I added my Coconut Blends pigment inks to give the Ancient Amber embossing powder a good base to stick to.

Add embossing powder.

Love the magic of watching the powder melting and changing before your eyes!

I used the same Blends colors to stencil the inside of the Wrapped Journal.

Laced it up with 1 mm elastic…

I then added my insert pages- more photos coming soon!

I finished the edges using a water brush and Stop ink.

I found some foam numbers for the upcoming year and decided to try and emboss them with Oil Rubbed Bronze powder using Mixed Medi Medium as an adhesive. I was not sure how it would work becuse I was afraid that the heat tool would melt the foam, but it worked fine! I then added my insert pages- more photos coming soon…

And there you have the finished Stenciled Embossed Journal!
