Reflecting on 2021 – Favorite Projects Roundup

2 Dec

Gosh Golly, it’s December! How did that happen? This has definitely been a year of great Sizzix designs from Eileen Hull (and her new stamp line!!) She really knocked it out of the park with so many of them (it’s hard to pick favorites but the Folio Journal Die and 3-D Sweater Embossing Folder are at the top of my personal list.) Anyway, this month the Team designers are taking a look back over the year and doing favorite projects roundup posts. Let’s see what inspiration they have for us today!

Lisa Hoel started off with a cyberpunk ‘Robot’ Folio Journal make as a favorite project. You will have to head on over to her blog to see her other picks. 😉 She has linked to the original (extensive) tutorial blog posts as well so you will find plenty to browse.

I think Pam Bray had some trouble narrowing down her favorites from the year! No wonder, Pam created SO many beautiful and creative projects over the course of 2021. Pay her blog a visit to see her project lineup and get inspired by revisiting her makes.

Karen Bearse picked her top 3 with the help of her daughter. (It is hard to play favorites!) Karen’s marvelous mixed media style is on full display in these three favorite projects. She also has links to the project tutorials in her blog post so don’t miss out on seeing more photos and the techniques!

Inspired by Nature – Journals Made with Sizzix Dies

15 Sep

September is Nature Journal month here on Eileen Hull’s blog! Her designers have been inspired by nature and are creating really lovely projects for your inspiration. Have you been playing along too and sharing your makes in the Eileen Hull Fan Club? (If not, you should!) We have another full post of creations from the Inspiration Team to share so let’s take a look…

Elizabeth Robinson used an unlikely die, the Gift Box with Scallops, to create her delightfully chunky gardeners’ journal. Pay her blog a visit to see how she “hacked” the Gift Box die to turn it into a journal and to see all the details.

Are you ready for a stunner? Check out this gorgeous journal made by Jenny Marples! Wow, is all I can say. The bird images are from wallpaper samples (want) and this little Pocket Notebook junk journal is FULL of flips, pockets, tags, nooks, crannies and goodness at every turn. You will not want to miss the full rundown and a closer look in Jenny’s blog post.

Designer Anna-Karin Evaldsson created a beautiful little nature sketchbook with a box to take with her on her walks in the woods. She is indeed inspired by nature! The carry box is made using Eileen’s Folio Journal Die. Such lovely earthy details in classic Anna-Karin style. See how she did it in the tutorial on her blog.

Nature Journals Made with Eileen Hull’s Sizzix Dies

8 Sep

Hello, we are back with more nature journals made using Eileen’s ever versatile Sizzix Dies. In addition, the Teams were challenged to use dies that aren’t normally thought of as “journal” dies. They have been getting really creative! Let’s take a look at what we have to inspire you this week…

Julia Aston used the Gift Card Folder Die to make a holder for a diminutive nature junk journal. What a clever idea! The die is made for holding gift cards but I think it’s also perfect to hold a mini book. Julia also used some of Eileen’s new rubber stamps (Vintage Damask Stamp) in the decoration of the box. Check out her blog for all the how-to and detail photos.

Designer Lisa Hoel is back with Part 2 of her Treasure Box nature journal ensemble. (See Part 1 here.) Last week she showed how the box was constructed and this week we get a look at the mini journal that fits into the lid. She used #allthestamps for the interior pages! See all the details in her blog post.

Maggi Harding used the Folio Journal Die for her project. “But wait,” you say, “that’s an ‘official’ journal die.” But I say that Maggi has a clever die hack to share with you on how to make it into a tag journal. Stay tuned for her Facebook Live! In the meantime, head on over to her blog to peruse all the lovely detail photos of the insides.

Summer Fun and an Eileen Hull Craft Along

16 Jun

Hello Eileen Hull fans! June is all about projects that show summer fun plus a chance to have some creative fun with a Craft Along Eileen did on her Facebook page. Eileen’s Sizzix dies are tops for versatility and will make your own projects shine. Let’s take a look at what the Inspiration Team has for us this week. More info about the Craft Along follows!

Designer Jenny Marples created a summer fun card that will make you want to hit the road for camping adventures! She used the 3-D Camper Die (yes, 3-D can also mean 2-D!) plus Flower and Leaf dies to compose this refreshing scene. I love how she used gel plate prints for the card parts – it adds a lovely visual texture and interest to the card. You can find more info on Jenny’s blog post!

Inspired by the sea, Lisa Hoel used the Folio Journal Die to make a stationery folder and filled it with matching cards and envelopes. This would make a great gift and could easily be adapted to any theme! More photos and info can be found on Lisa’s blog so head on over to take a peek.

Summer Fun Craft Along with Eileen…

Recently, Eileen did a Facebook Live Craft Along that was a lot of fun! She showed us how to make an interactive 4” x 6” folder from one sheet of 12” x 12” paper that fits in the Sizzix Pocket Notebook. I know I might have a few extra sheets of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper laying around (ha ha ha). You can still join in with the replay to learn how to make one as well!

Love all those tuck spots!
It opens out to reveal all this!

Isn’t that fun? You can see a little video of it in action here. If you’d like to gather all your supplies so you can craft along with Eileen, here is what you will need:

  • 4-5 coordinating 12″ x 12″ double sided papers – save one full sheet of paper for the base and use the rest for the pieces. Paper pads work great for this! It fits in the Pocket Notebook Die.

    Waterfall & Tags die
  • 10 Waterfall pieces (the one with the score line)
  • 4 Waterfall mat rectangle pieces
  • 2 scalloped border pieces
  • 6 small tags
  • 2 medium tags
  • 2 large tags
  • 10 tag reinforcements

Folio Page, Pocket and Flowers die
  • 7 round pockets (without tabs) from the Folio Page, Pocket and Flowers die from random designs
  • 4″ x 6″ coordinating paper scrap for middle section
  • Inks – if you want to distress edges, you can do that before we start
  • Glue
  • Seam Binding to tie up
  • Craft knife and self healing mat
  • Scoreboard and bone folder

Head on over to Facebook when you are ready and watch the video on replay!

Summertime Fun, Crafting Style with Sizzix

9 Jun

For the month of June, the theme here on the blog is Summer Adventures! The Teams have been creatively cooking up summertime fun, crafting style using Eileen Hull’s Sizzix dies to great effect! Eileen’s dies are the perfect blank canvas to showcase your creativity and are so versatile. Let’s take a look at what the Inspiration Team has for us this week…

Julia Aston created a darling kids’ grab and go activity kit using the Folio Journal. So creative Julia! The Folio opens up to reveal treats and fun things to keep a kiddo busy with on the spot entertainment. The cheerful circus theme compliments the idea perfectly. See all the details in Julia’s blog post.

To me summer also means time in the garden and lots of flowers! Susie Bentz made a delightful card with summer colors and flower embellishments made with the Folio Page, Pocket & Flowers Die Set. Who wouldn’t love to get this in the mail? A tutorial and more photos await your viewing on Susie’s blog.

This year, summertime means travel time!

Maggi Harding is getting ready to embark on a motorhome adventure out west and made a travel journal to document the trip. She used the Journal XL Die and gorgeous Graphic 45 papers for its construction. (Did I mention I love those papers??) More photos and a video are on Maggi’s blog so don’t miss that!

One of the fun things about making a junk/travel journal is that you can also make all sorts of fun bits to go inside of it. Tonya Trantham created this absolutely fabulous project using a jumbo paperclip and Eileen’s 3-D Camper Trailer Die. This would be great to use in a journal, as a bookmark or to clip on just about anything! Tonya has a tutorial on her blog so head on over to check it out.
