Stenciled Baby Shoe Centerpiece

14 Apr

My designer friend, Rebekah Meier, has come out with her own line of stencils with The Crafter’s Workshop! She invited me to celebrate their release by being part of a blog hop, which I was very honored to do. Rebekah’s designs are so delicate and beautiful.

I used Rebekah’s Stained Glass and Ring Doily designs to make my project. The die I used was one from my new Cherished collection, Shoe, 3D.

Here’s a quick tutorial on how I made the baby shoe centerpiece… I used my new Clearsnap ColorBox Blends inks to lightly blend Bay, Sunshine, Tutu and Leaf on the inside and outside of the shoe. Then I placed Rebekah’s stencils on top of the shoe pieces and swirled the Nutmeg Blends over the stencil so that the colors come through from behind the stencil negative. I sprayed the back of the stencil with spray adhesive just to make sure things did not shift. You can make the colors as dark or light as you wish by adding layers.

I used my Sizzix Flowers, Layers #9, Flower, Fringed, Leaves, Bloom and Plant Markers  and Flower with Heart Petals dies to create the flowers. I also used my new Craffiti stamp set, Animal Crackers, to stamps the sentiment on the stake.

The shoe was laced up with dyed seam binding and I added floral foam to the inside of the shoe with kraft paper crinkles on top of it. Lace was added to the bottom of the shoe.

Make sure to check out all of the different ways you can use stencils over on Rebekah’s blog.

Love Layout

12 Apr

love-letters-eileen-hull-sm.jpgHead on over to the Sizzix UK blog today to see how to create this layout. You might be surprised to find out which die was used to make the scalloped squares!

There are also some truly beautiful wedding favor boxes created by my new friends Anne Redfern of Redanne and Jenny Marples of  Pushing The Right Buttons. They have embraced the ATB and are running with it. The projects, tutorials and photography are outstanding so head on over and check them out!

This layout was set in a 12″ x 12″ white frame but I left out the glass because it is so dimensional.

I am constantly making paper flowers and have a whole box of them. This layout is a great way to use random flowers made from different materials as long as the colors blend together well. I admit there is a lot of pattern going on here, but I like it.

Have a great weekend- the Cherry Blossoms are out in DC!

Scotty Studio Tour

10 Apr

I was so happy when Angie invited me to join her Studio Tour Blog Hop this week! You can see the whole list of over 30 bloggers on Angie’s blog who are taking part. There are some really cool spaces- I have enjoyed seeing where everyone works and plays!

OK, I know I am cheating, but have a kitchen remodel in the works and my daughter’s wedding in 2 weeks- guess where all of the junk got moved to? The basement- where my studio is. So I asked Angie if she minded if I post about my mobile studio instead.

1976_Serro_Scotty_new

This photo was taken when I got the camper last fall. I painted it recently in preparation for a trip I took last week to teach in Massachusetts and the outside of it looks much better now! Here is a video of what it looked like inside.

The camper is only about 12 feet long but it can sleep 7- there are bunks above and the table folds down for a bed. And I can tell you it holds a LOT of stuff- there are cupboards everywhere and nooks and crannies to tuck things!

The #PaperTrail Teaching Tour to New England was a great success and lots of fun for several reasons. The first reason was that I was traveling with some awesome company- Amy Bowerman of Plucking Daisies and Anita Houston the Artful Maven. Oh and Norman the Gnome, our #PaperTrail mascot (sitting on the Got Ink? box). Read about the trip here and here.

So what does one need in a mobile craft studio? Business cards of course…

Crafters… Anita and Amy are knocking out some Sizzix Artist Trading Blocks.

Supplies…. perfect place to store my new Clearsnap ColorBox Blends inks, CraffitiDirect stamps, and Sizzix dies!

Studio-tour-EileenHull-crate

Storage… I used vintage wooden soda crates to set out the supplies for class- here are some of my friend Joanne Fink‘s beautiful new stamps.

Studio-tour-EileenHull-Joanne-Fink-stamps

Decor… The overhead bins were covered with pages from a vintage atlas hidden in a box lot at an auction for $2!

Die cutting equipment! The Big Shot, dies and cutting pads fit great in a cabinet over the refrigerator…

More storage… I found the best place for storing 12″ x 12″ paper I bought along the way! Kept it flat and dry!

Studio-tour-eileenhull-oven

I used vintage suitcases to store my samples. Amy was the master at getting them set up and on display in minutes…

Crafty friends… This past weekend we had Dina Wakley and Dyan Reavely out in the camper. Read Dyan’s account of the trip and see more pics here 🙂

Things got a little crazy and let’s just say there was some overspray… so today (in your honor) I decided to cover this table with oilcloth given to me by my friend quilter Pat Sloan.

Gather your materials: oilcloth, spray adhesive and a craft knife…

Studio-tour-EileenHull-table-supplies

Spray the table top with adhesive, making sure to cover the edges really well.

Studio-tour-EileenHull-table-cover

Place the oilcloth over the table and carefully cut in the ditch of the table edge. Don’t look too closely at this pic- I messed up in a few spots. But it’s way better than what was there and if I want, I can change it. And I love that it will wipe clean.

Studio-tour-EileenHull-table-done

There is so much more I want to do in here- and I still need to make curtains. Now I am slightly obsessed with the idea of making paper curtains because it is the PaperTrail…

What would you do if you had this little house on wheels? Isn’t it fun to think about?

I am off on another trip in June and would love for you to follow along as I make my way around the country. You can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates and you can always check back here on the blog to see what’s up.

Studio-tour-eileenhull.chalkboard-follow-pprtrlThanks for coming by- hope you enjoyed this quick tour of my mobile studio! Make sure to check out all of the studios on the Angie’s Studio Tour here…

The East Coast #PaperTrail Adventure

7 Apr

Hi everyone! I chugged into town last Friday morning after being on the first #PaperTrail adventure for nine days. The trip went really well- my only disappointment was not having enough time to post everything in real time. I learned a lot about what worked and what didn’t so am sure that my next jaunt will be even better.

To catch up with where we are on the #PaperTrail, read my posts here and here. When I say we, I am referring to my #papertrail companions- Amy Bowerman of Plucking Daisies  and Anita Houston, the Artful Maven. [Read more…]
