New Chapter 4 Sizzix Dies from Eileen Hull

8 Oct

Did you participate in last week’s new Chapter 4 Sizzix Die Release party? We had an eye-candy filled Blog Hop and Eileen shared a fun FaceBook live event with us. Eileen has two new exciting scoreboards dies for us to play with (shipping now!) – the 3-D Teacup Die and the Post Box Die. As always, Eileen’s dies are extremely versatile and the perfect bases for any ideas your creativity can throw at it.

What Eileen says about her new dies:

I had so many requests for the teacup die (retired a couple of years ago) that I designed a new one for you – the Teacup, 3D & Spoon! What is different about it? This is a Bigz L die (which means a lower price point!), and features a spoon (new), teabag label (could be used as a teeny tiny book!) and insert piece.

This XL ScoreBoards Post Box die was designed to work as a mini mailbox. The slot will allow a gift card/credit card to go through. It would be a fun way to decorate a gift card box for the holidays. And did I mention that assembling this die takes about 10 seconds? Seriously!

Team Project time!

Now let’s take a look at some of the Inspiration Team makes! Karen Bearse used the 3-D Teacup Die and the Stacking Drawer Die to cleverly create this tea bag caddy. This is such a creative idea! As she points out in her blog post, you could apply this same idea to many different sorts and themes of organizers. Don’t miss her post for a complete tutorial!

Designer Lisa Hoel used the new Teacup Die to create a piece that celebrates her favorite season – fall! She used a 3-D embossing folder to create the woodgrain on the teacup and a tree rings die to create a ‘saucer’. Check out all the details on her blog.

Jenny Marples knocked it out of the park with her Teacup Die creations! She used stamping and coloring to replicate the look of real china teacups. Brilliant! (The blue one is my favorite. 😉 ) I’ll spill one of her secrets too. She embossed the teacups with Eileen’s clear embossing powder to really hit home with the porcelain look! Visit the blog post for a tutorial and plenty of photos.

Appreciating the Great Outdoors

16 Sep

It’s been a wild month so far! Our theme for September is the Great Outdoors and Mother Nature has been on the fierce side! We can still appreciate the natural world in all its moods and have it inspire our work. Let’s take a look at what the Inspiration Team has been up to:

Elizabeth Robinson is feeling the fall vibe and created a darling gardening journal to keep track of all of her end of season garden tasks. She used Belagio cork fabric to cover the Passport Book Die which gives it the perfect woodsy feel. All the details and plenty of photos can be found on her blog!

Have you ever had an issue keeping your supplies organized while working on a project? (Raising my hand.) Well, Jenny Marples has come up with a stunning solution. This floral fold-away masterpiece of organizations is full of compartments and trays to keep it all sorted and it looks fab while doing it! The structure is based on the online class project Eileen Hull recently taught at Country View Crafts. Head on over to Jenny’s blog post to learn all about it!

Anna-Karin Evaldsson is fortunate in that she can take daily walks in lovely natural surroundings. The forest is one of her favorite places so she used a beautiful photo she took on the cover of her DIY sketchbook project, made with the Notebook Die. She incorporates stamping and other techniques into this make so be sure to check out her tutorial on her blog.

Tonya Trantham shows off her going green skills with this Pocket Notebook journal made with recycled corrugated cardboard. Très chic! Delightfully decorated, the interior is full of mix and match papers. This approach would be a great start to a junk journal! Tonya has a tutorial and a lot more photos for you to peruse on her blog post so don’t miss it!

Let the Great Outdoors Inspire You

9 Sep

This month we are taking a look at the great outdoors and how it can inspire our art! So far we’ve seen some really great projects from the Inspiration Team and we have some more for you today. Eileen Hull’s dies are perfectly versatile “blank canvases” that you can adapt to any theme. Journals galore, gift containers, organizers, treat boxes – if you can imagine it, one of Eileen’s Sizzix dies can most likely help you to make it!

Designer Maggi Harding took a trip to Alaska and had some wonderful wildlife viewing experiences! She created this fabulous Pocket Notebook to remember her trip. She also used one of Eileen’s classic dies, the Mailable Frame to make the front piece for her album. Be sure to check out her blog post to see more photos, a video flip through and the tutorial.

Take a deep breath of fresh air…

Susie Bentz has two Tiny Books to share in her post and it looks like she had a lot of mixed media fun while making them! I love the techniques Susie used to create these mini journals and I think you will too, so head on over to her blog and she how she achieved the looks…

For Mitsyana Wright the outdoors means the beach, wind and waves. She created a Journal decked out with waves that makes you want to go lay on the warm sand and relax. Love those ocean colors! She has a complete tutorial on her blog that will fill you in on all her tips and tricks.

Lisa Hoel has a throw back project from last September to share. She made a fall garden journal using the XL Journal for the cover and a variety of Eileen’s other dies too. It has spots to save seeds and take garden notes. You’ll find more photos and a tutorial on Lisa’s blog so don’t miss it.

Ideas for Creating Junk Journals

19 Aug

We are into our third week of exploring ideas for creating junk journals! We hope you have been inspired so far and sharing your own makes in the Facebook Fan Club. Junk journals can take so many forms and be used for pretty much any purpose. A junk journal is what you want it to be! You may think you can’t create a junk journal but I bet you’ll surprise yourself. Read on to see this week’s projects from the Inspiration Team.

Scroll for inspiration…

Elizabeth Robinson made a beautiful mixed media cover for her Notebook Die journal. Those colors and layers are wonderful! The inside pages are mix of plain and patterned papers. Check out Elizabeth’s blog post for all the details on how she made this.

Team member Jenny Marples truly did use “junk” to create the structure of her new art journal and it is truly amazing! The cover is cut using the Pocket Notebook Die and the inside is full of flaps, pages, and parts that stick out. You will not regret going through the tutorial on her blog. I can’t wait to see how she adds the art to this super cool “blank canvas”.

Do you have a hoard of scrap paper leftover from various projects? (Bet you do!) Anna-Karin Evaldsson busted out her stash and stuffed a Notebook Die cover full of color swatch tests, stamping, tags and other mixed media goodies. Her junk journal is bursting with colorful fun and what a great feeling to be using up scraps that might be considered “junk”. See it all in her tutorial on her blog.

Cleverly using the Gift Box with Scalloped Edges Die, Tonya Trantham created a “Everyday Life” junk journal. In signature Tonya style, she filled it with die cuts, embellishments, stickers and all sorts of other goodies to make a darling shabby chic style journal. Check out all the steps and detail photos on her blog.

Inserts/Pages:

Of course, it’s up to you how big you want to make the insert books that go inside the journals, but here’s a guide to help you get started.

The Pocket Notebook and Passport Book dies contain elements on the dies to create pages that fit in the book, but don’t worry… small books can be found in discount and stationery stores that are pre-made and inexpensive if you don’t want to make your own. Inserts are really easy to do though!

Next week we will see junk journal ideas from the Educator Team!

Junk Journal Ideas Galore!

13 Aug

Did you miss the August kick off post last week? The theme this month is Junk Journals with a focus on the “insides”. The Inspiration and Educator Teams have been busy! Comfort zones are being stretched but everyone is rising to the occasion! Scroll on to see junk journal ideas galore…

First up to bat (see what I did there, lol) is Maggi Harding with a fabulous vintage Halloween vibe junk journal. She used the Pocket Notebook Die for the cover and filled it with so many fold outs, tuck spots and tags it will blow your mind! She also has a tutorial for how to make a waterfall element. You will not want to miss her post with all the details.

Susie Bentz claims that she isn’t a junk journaler but she came up with an awesome idea utilizing the Tiny Book Die. She made a holder for embellishment tickets you can use in your junk journal projects. Head on over to her blog to see her ingenious idea and how she did it.

It’s a work in progress… fangirl Lisa Hoel is creating an epic Wonder Woman themed junk journal. (I have it on good authority that she has a whole folder full of ephemera saved up to use.) A whole lotta junk requires the use of Eileen’s largest journal die – the Journal XL. Lisa used that for the cover and she will be able to pack it full! Check out her blog post to see the cover and two inner page ideas. Part 2 will be next week!

Mitsyana Wright is another one of the designers who says she is no good at filling up junk journals. Well, she sure proved herself wrong this time! Using the Passport Book Die, she created a delightful unicorn journal as a birthday gift for her daughter. It is bright and cheerful and her daughter will love it (and it has stuff inside 😉 ) See all the details in her blog post. And as Mitsyana says, a junk journal can be whatever you want it to be.
