July Art with Heart Challenge: Make it 3-D!

7 Jul

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a fantastic holiday weekend.  It’s time for a new Art with Heart Challenge and our theme for July is “Make it 3-D”.  The Inspiration Team has been busy creating with my Make it 3-D die and our dear Shelly Hickox had a great idea to use this particular die as the focus of an Art with Heart Challenge.   For those of you that don’t know the Make it 3-D die is an easy way to make 3-D projects with your two-dimensional dies.  There are three different ways to “Make it 3-D” with the Make it 3-D die so the possibilities are truly endless!  You can use the Make it 3-D die with ANY of the Sizzix dies in your collection too.  Want to learn more about the Make it 3-D die?  Check it our HERE

You don’t have to use the Make it 3-D die for this challenge just show us your best 3-D projects!  One lucky winner will receive a Make it 3-D die of their own.  By the end of this challenge you’ll be amazed at what you can do with the Make it 3-D die once you see what the Inspiration team is creating.

Pam Bray starts us off with a fabulous project using the Make it 3-D die and an old favorite the Lace Doily!  Pam combined these two Sizzix dies to create a colorful Candle Box gift set but this project can be used for all of your gift giving needs and more!

Tracy Evans is no stranger to 3-D projects and her latest creation is as wonderful as ever!  Tracy has used my Make it 3-D, Passport Book, and Recipe Card dies to create a trifecta of three dimensional Mixed-Media magic with DecoArt Media.  I’m just giddy over those accent frames aren’t you?

Top 5 Alaska Surprises

18 Jun

IMG_5127

My husband and I are in Alaska celebrating our 35th anniversary. We are thoroughly enjoying exploring the Last Frontier  There have been lots of surprises for me and thought I would share them with you…

1. I must not have been paying attention in school, but I didn’t realize that Alaska has only been a state since 1959!

2. At this time of year, it is daylight pretty much ALL THE TIME! (at least for 20+ hours per day. We haven’t seen the dark yet!) The good news about that is that you have plenty of time to see the sights because it is always light. Of course at some point you have to sleep… which is a little confusing to me because it just doesn’t seem right to sleep while it’s light… But I am messed up in that department anyway, being a night person. Here’s a photo of what it looked like at 11:30 PM when we went out looking for moose…with no luck… Even when it is supposed to be dark, it’s just kind of twilight.

thumb_IMG_5590_1024

3. I thought it would be a lot more expensive up here. But I live near DC and the prices on gas, milk, etc. are pretty close. The big difference we have seen is in eating out and fresh veggies and fruit. We are not huge seafood eaters, but I understand it is really fresh and reasonable.

4. Flowers here are big and beautiful! Maybe it’s all the sun the flowers are getting? They are amazing. I think their weeds and wildflowers are so pretty. Here are some photos I have taken along the way.

5. The mountains. THE MOUNTAINS. THE mountain. Denali. Mt. McKinley. It’s hard to describe the feeling I get when I see this mountain. It is 20,000 ft. and towers above all the others. It is visible for hundreds of miles. We saw it when we were in Anchorage and also 359 miles away in Fairbanks. It is white and immense. It is awesome. When I look at it, I see God and all of the beautiful things that have been created for us. I am so glad we got the car and were able to see it from different angles and viewpoints.

More to come. We are off to Summit Lake and our last night on the road till we get on the boat tomorrow and meet our friends. Stay tunes and thanks for journeying along with me my friends!

Button button who’s got the button? I think it’s Lisa Hoel! She loves buttons so much that she covered an Artist Trading Block with them. See her work of art here and how she made it.

Michelle Zerull had fun with DecoArt paint and Sizzix dies. Don’t you dig this desert scene? Michelle used the Candy Cup die to make a crackled Succulent Plant Pot!
