Now let’s get crafting! I have seen so many cute wreaths on Pinterest, I decided to make one.

Along the way, I discovered a really cool use for the Sizzix Leaves die… flower petals! 657119_2leavesThis would be a really great project to do with kids. It would be fun to have a wreath making party and let them all pick their own colors and flowers- you can decorate these in all different themes and colors.

A little about felt… there is craft felt and wool felt. Wool felt is made of varying amounts of organic material- wool. Craft felt is synthetic and will not die cut as well as wool. Both kinds will work in the Big Shot- with the wool felt cutting like butter. I normally run craft felt through two times to make sure I get a clean cut. Felt comes in fifferent weights as well. For this project, I used extra thick felt by Kunin generously sent to me. Felt comes in a lot of Time to dig into my stash of felt and yarn…

You will need:

  • Sizzix Big Shot
  • Sizzix Leaves die by Eileen Hull
  • Sizzix Romance Flower by Eileen Hull
  • Sizzix Twist & Style tool
  • STYROFOAM™ 10″ wreath
  • felt- red, gold and green
  • matboard scraps
  • yarn- different textures of whites and greens and one red- preferably fuzzy 🙂
  • glue gunDIY-cozy-wreath-ehull

Instructions:

  1. Wrap lengths of yarn around wreath form, alternating white with green. Use a glue gun to secure strands to wreath.DIY-cozy-wreath-ehull-10
  2. Die cut seven large leaves from red felt and three from green felt. Die cut six of the smallest flower petal on the Romance flower die from gold felt. Die cut one medium Romance flower petal from matboard to use as a base for the flower.

  3. Form the red flower by adding dots of hot glue into the center fold at the base of the petal and pressing together. Butt petals next to each other and glue together in a flower shape.DIY-cozy-wreath-ehull-7
  4. Bunch centers of gold petals on a base flower and glue down. Glue gold center into middle of red flower.hero-cozy-wreath-ehull-3
  5. Glue red flower on matboard base. Adhere to wreath.cozy-wreath-ehull-14
  6. Use the Twist & Style tool to make a hanger for the wreath. I didn’t know what would happen when I twisted felt but it worked! Cut a 1/2″ strip of red felt about 24″ long, fold in half and  and twist as seen on the instructions in tool packaging. Here’s a video I did at Scrapbook.com showing how to use this fun gadget here.hero-cozy-wreath-ehull-7
  7. Pin hanger into back of wreath. I did that because then I can adjust the placement of the hanger if I want to change it.
  8. And that’s it!hero-cozy-wreath-ehull-5

Handmade Holidays Blog Hop 2014

8 Nov

Handmade Holidays 2014 Hop Logo

Welcome to day 2 of the 4th Annual Handmade Holidays Blog Hop! A few years ago we were looking online for handmade gift ideas and thought it would be great if there was a resource dedicated JUST to handmade gift ideas. Enter the Handmade Holidays hop! We’ve gathered over 100 of our creative blogger friends in the craft industry as well as some of our fellow product manufacturers to bring you a plethora of inspiring gift ideas you can make now to give to your friends, family, and colleagues. Pin and bookmark these ideas for this holiday season and to use throughout the year! Each day of the hop features approximately 30 gift projects and you can “hop” from one blog to another to check them all out.

My project is a fun Santa Canister

Santa Gift Boxhero659877- Canisterfrom the new Sizzix Vintage Kitchen collection.

Santa_Canister10

Growing up, my mom had a set of  silver canisters- two tall ones for Flour and Sugar and then two smaller stacking ones for Coffee and Tea. That set was my inspiration for this die. The Canister is a versatile die because it will hold a stack of cookies, brownies or candy- the perfect container to decorate for the holidays! You can also cut the canister in half to make two stacking short ones that stack because the lid and bottom fit on any size that you decide to make!

Sizzix supplies:

  • Big Shot die cutting machine
  • extended cutting pads
  • Canister die
  • Jar Labels Textured Impressions
  • Kitchen Labels Framelits
  • matboard

Other Supplies:

  • velvet looking ribbon
  • spray adhesive
  • rhinestone buckle
  • Santa’s coat trim
  • – 1/4″ iCraft tape
  1. Coat one and a half sheets of matboard with spray adhesive. Cover with wide red velvet ribbon. Die cut Canister and one additional side side. Stamp snowflakes on the inside of the box.Santa-Canister3
  2. Place lines of double sided adhesive down each tab and on the tabs of the lid. Remove release paper and adhere sides together to form square shape. (If you don’t like the look of the white seams showing down the sides, you can fill in with a red marker). Fold matboard over on all score lines of the bottom of box, then insert into the base.
  3. Cut a length of black webbing to go around the box. Use hot glue to adhere webbing around belt loop. Wrap belt around box.Santa_Canister-belt
  4. Hot glue white fur around the top edge of the Canister lid. Pierce a hole in the top of the lid. Secure leather button to top of box.Santa_Canister8
  5. Emboss a scrap of metal using the Jar Labels Textured Impressions folder. Die cut matching label from the Kitchen Labels Framelits set. With a metal stamp, spell out “4U”. Add black paint over the sentiment, then wipe off. Punch a hole in the tag and tie on to cellophane bag filled with goodies.Santa_Canister9
  6. Give away!
