Triple Play Blog Hop Week 1- Going to the Chapel

Hi friends 🙂 Welcome to the first round of the Triple Play Blog Hop! No one is more excited than I am to see what all these amazing and talented designers created using my ScoreBoard house die as a base. So here we go…

My daughter Jessica is getting married in April so I decided to make a keepsake for her. The church is created in blue, silver and white- her wedding colors. I put a slot in the roof so I can add my spare change for unexpected expenses (lots of them ahead, I’m sure!) Here’s how I did it…

You will need:
#65279; Sizzix Scoreboards Pro Die – House, 3D, by Eileen Hull
Sizzix 12×12 matboard, white
Sizzix Big Shot Pro die cutting machine

Swiss dots embossing folder
craft knife
American Crafts glitter cardstock- aqua
Blumenthal Lansing buttons
Zip Dry Paper Glue by Beacon Adhesives
silver glitter pipe cleaners
laser cut paper clipping
ScoreTape or brads (medium size)
Stickles- silver
font- Mandolyn by Duetica

Instructions:

Cut house from white matboard on Big Shot Pro.
Lay the main structure inside the embossing folder and run it through the machine again. Match up the design and repeat until the surface of the church has been embossed.
Cut an arched opening above the door. I used a button as a template and cut with a craft knife (I happened to find a bag of laser cuts in my stash and one just happened to fit in the doorway and have a lacy cutout at the top- perfect!) Use whatever you have on hand to embellish the door.
Assemble house using tape and/or brads. Turn it around so the windows are in the back.
Center the bump-out piece on the front and adhere to the main structure with ScoreTape.
Create the steeple by cutting two additional bump-outs from aqua glitter chipboard (LOVE this stuff). The roof angle was determined by tracing the outline of the main roof over both bumpouts and cutting them out.
Adhere steeple parts to each other with double stick tape.
Cut additional bump-out roof and adhere to top of steeple.
Poke a hole in the middle of the steeple roof and insert cross created from 2 silver pipe cleaners.
Cut 6 pieces of fence. Adhere 3 pieces together with ScoreTape. Repeat.
Add logo artwork to button and accent with silver Stickles. Adhere logo to center of church front.
Cut roof from silver metallic matboard and emboss using Tim Holtz’s Notebook Page Texture Fade. If desired, go over edges with a silver pen.
Add desired accents to the vignette according to event or season. I made a mini stand-up Jess and Jason from a photo. I cut up another spare bump-out roof and taped that to the back of the photo so the photo stands up.

This is the back view minus the steeple- it doubles as their first home! I added glitter windows and the happy couple again.

This photo is one of my favorites. It was taken on the day of Jason’s graduation from the Coast Guard Academy in May. He and Jess met while singing in the Glee Club, then she graduated and went off to her first assignment. My love and wishes for a happy life together and house with white picket fence, Jess and Jason!

In the process of creating this project, I designed a wedding logo which will be used for Save the Date cards and other stationery items, i.e. envelope seals, tags, etc. I have been doing some work for a really cool company called Duetica who graciously allowed me to use one of their beautiful fonts to create this logo. I’ll give you a hint- the cakestand is composed of a letter. Leave me a comment if you can figure it out. I will mail a random commenter a special Sizzix prize!

Triple Play Blog Hop starts this Thursday!

You may be wondering what this logo is all about. Well, myself and fellow Sizzix die artists Karen Burniston and Brenda Pinnick have teamed up to put together a blog hop that’s going to blow your socks off! The Sizzix blog is where it will start this Thursday- go there to see 60 (or so) fabulous designers’ versions of my ScoreBoard Pro House die! No two projects will be the same- I am dying to see what cool things everyone has done with theirs! Every Thursday for seven weeks a different die will be featured so stay tuned for lots of blog candy.

At CHA this summer, Karen Burniston, Sizzix pop-up genius, gave me one of her latest dies, the Pop-Up Bat. I am ashamed to say that it sat on my shelf for some time. I decided it was time to see what these pop-up dies were all about. Surprise, surprise… they are FUN! The directions were super easy and it came together quickly. I love how my little bat fits perfectly in the ScoreBoard Memo Holder. Pop-up books were my favorite growing up. Wouldn’t this be a fun card to send to a little kid?

I just followed the directions for creating the bat- cut it from black cardstock and assembled as directed. Then I cut a memo holder from orange black core matboard. I love this matboard because both sides of the board are already colored. It just takes a minute to run an inkpad along the edges, if you want them distressed. Some days I like to leave everything clean- it depends on my mood 🙂

The bat was taped into the fold of the memo holder, then I added some bat stickers I had on hand. A string was drawn for the spider to hang on and I did ink the edges of the folder in black. On the front, I printed “beware” on the computer and added that to the memo holder cover. The folder is held closed by a hair elastic and some bright buttons by Blumenthal Lansing. They have a cool new site, by the way, that you might want to check out.

Better get this done soon and in the mail- Halloween is just a week away!
