Valentine’s Day

10 Feb

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! It’s snowing like crazy here and I had the urge to make something pretty and spring-ish. I came across this sweet little bundle of flowers in a drawer the other day.

The flowers were given to me by my daughter for Mother’s Day several years ago, along with a box of Godiva chocolates and a funny card. She was a senior in high school and we were going though a rough patch as she got ready to head off to college. When I see the flowers now, it makes me grateful for my three daughters. I love watching them pursuing their dreams and goals and am so proud of them.

To make this cheery wall hanging, I started with the ScoreBoard Notebook Pocket die, the Big Shot and 6″ x 13″ piece of matboard. I ran the die and matboard through the die cut machine (Big Shot). I folded the box up and used strong double sided tape to hold it together along the back tabs. The cool shimmery pink finish is a metallic adhesive sheet by JEJE Produkts which is cut to the width of the box. The pattern on the top was punched out using a Martha Stewart border punch. I peeled the adhesive backing off and lined it up evenly on the front and pressed it down and around to the back of the box. After arranging the flowers, I looped the pretty ribbon through the brad holes in the back to use as a handle and wrapped and tied the ends around to the front.

Check the Sizzix blog for another project using my fun ScoreBoard dies. Hope your Valentine’s Day is LOVEly!

Deck the halls…

15 Dec

It usually takes till about now for me to get in the holiday spirit. Today my friends Tina and Lorine and I went up to a historical wheat plantation in Leesburg where they featured wedding dresses of women who had lived there. It was beautiful weather and a great day to be there. Then we went on to lunch. We decided to go somewhere together instead of giving gifts this year. I am so blessed to have several circles of great friends and I don’t tell them enough how much I love them.

But now, back to a depressing topic… I am cleaning the basement/studio and wonder why in the world I let it get like this. I’m on a roll right now though… just in time for CHA coming up when another disaster will be created!

A couple of things… I appeared on Inspired at Home: Spotlight on Creativity Dec. 7. The show archives are up if you want to see the show.

The Sizzix blog was supposed to go live today but due to a tech problem it was delayed… hopefully tomorrow it will go up.

Last thing. I was going through some stuff and found this little angel I had gotten at a thrift store somewhere. Is it my imagination or does she look faintly annoyed? Something about the way she’s clutching that harp reminds me of my mom’s expression in the rearview mirror as she is driving my sisters and I to piano lessons as we were goofing around and being obnoxious in the back seat and generally getting on her nerves… good times…

Tomorrow night is Book Club so I will be baking today for the cookie exchange and family members that will soon be arriving. Christmas is coming!

18 Days till Christmas!

7 Dec

It’s winter! And we have the snow to prove it… I returned to Virginia on Saturday morning from 3 days in Kansas to a beautiful white wonderland. I am happy to report that my son is back from Iraq and he and his family are doing well! Thanks for all of your comments- I relayed them and he was touched at your concern and gratitude. Trinity is sporting the latest in ballerina attire.

Some fun events are coming up! First is another appearance on Tiffany Windsor’s Facebook LIVE: Spotlight on Creativity Monday, Dec. 7 at 10 AM with last minute holiday gift wrap ideas using my new Sizzix ScoreBoard dies. Instructions will be posted in the upcoming week for the projects featured on the show. I also have some exciting news to share so hope you can tune in.

This coming Wednesday is Blog Hop #5 and the featured die is the Business Card box (which also holds a gift card- how handy is that!). Hope you can join me at 11 AM on Dec. 9 to see the latest creations of the talented ScoreBoard designers.

Now that the craft shows are over and I am almost caught up on my orders, I finally have some creative time! Please check back here often for holiday decorating ideas, recycled projects and quick handmade gifts.

IndyCars and Christmas shopping

7 Jul

This weekend we journeyed up to Watkins Glen, NY for the races. Honestly, there were a lot of cars and noise but I couldn’t tell you much about who won or what happened. What I can say is the weather was beautiful and my sister-in-law Allison and I got an afternoon to ourselves to spend in Corning, home of Corning Glass. The photo is a glass sculpture seen in the lobby. There was a museum, which we intended to tour, but never made it due to all of the glittering glassware tempting us in the gift shop. Several hundred dollars lighter, we emerged with bags of Christmas and birthday gifts and so proud that we had shopped ahead. Did I mention everything in the store was 30% off? So we returned to the races in a great frame of mind. Watkins Glen is located right at the end of Seneca Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) and is spectacular. We went down to town for dinner. Although they gave the table we had reserved overlooking the water to Eric Estrada (of CHiPS fame), the dinner was delicious and we forgave them. Made it back just in time for the best fireworks display I have ever seen. The camping crowd was definitely in a party mood- we took the RV and stayed right along the back stretch along with many others- and it was fun to see all of the cool set-ups: campfires, flags, viewing stands, etc. that people had constructed.

However, it’s great to be home and back into work mode. I’m busy trying to get a book proposal out before I leave again. Today I did a custom order and caught up on email. Tonight I get into gear for CHA– have to create for the Designer Showcase. Come see me at lucky table #13 🙂 Wednesday, July 29 in Room W204 from 12-5 and then stay for the Meet the Designer event from 5-7.

Vodka Easter basket

9 Apr

Today I went to my friend Val’s house today for a

beautiful Easter lunch. She is an amazing cook and prepared a delicious meal for about 15 of us.
It being the Easter season and all, I made her a very special present. It started at another friend’s Christmas party. Val and I happened to be there chatting with each other. Honestly, I am not a big drinker but a challenge was issued and the next thing I knew, Val and I were doing shots of vodka! So on the way to her house today, I stopped at the ABC store and bought a cute little bottle of Absolut to give her a laugh. It not only fit nicely in this basket, but the yellow lettering of the “citron” matched the basket 🙂 The chick was happy to share the space.
The basket took about 10 minutes to make. A few swipes with my trusty Logan straight and bevel cutter to score and trim, a few holes punched with the Cropodile, a little tape gun action and I was on the road! Love this sweet Sizzix flower die designed by my talented friend Brenda Pinnick.
I know I promised to show the wine box I made for Pam. I like it- it’s almost done- but it just needs an extra touch of something… so that means I have to let it sit for a little bit and at some point it will come to me. I have a several projects like that right now, sitting here waiting for the finishing touch.

Tiny Ornaments

4 Dec

These were some fun little ornaments that I did for the Barn Sale while watching TV. Will use the ones that are left for package ornaments. Love gifts that can be used in several ways! I used glitter pipe cleaners as hangers- they were adorable.

My company is finally gone but I have so much to do I don’t know where to start. I should make a list. That always calms me down. Unless the list is too long. Then I freak out. Hmmm… Maybe I’ll make a list later.

I am a member of an International Gourmet Group (if you know me, you are laughing your head off right this minute). I love the ladies but the cooking, not so much. Well, Friday is our groups’ turn to host. Thankfully, my very nice friend Patty said she could have it at her house. So today we went out and set the tables and made final arrangements. It looks beautiful. I am trying to decide if we should put a tree up since we’ll be away for Christmas. Maybe a little one…
