Getting ready for CHA!

19 Jan

All my designer buddies are busy in their studios finishing up final preparations for CHA. I thought you might like a look at what Karen Burniston, designer of the fabulous Sizzix pop-up dies, and I have been cooking up for a Sizzix workshop. We will both be working with our latest dies. Karen has a brand new system coming out that is SO cool called Pop ‘n Cuts– (click to see how they work)! Here are the cards she is teaching. Just wait till you see how quickly these come together! So much fun…

My release for CHAW 12 is called Sweet Treats. It combines all of my favorite things- sweets, treats, matboard and ScoreBoard dies! With so many beautiful papers, stamps, and embellishments out there, these dies are a lot of fun to decorate. And they’re actually practical too! What more could you want in a project? They go together really quickly so you can make lots in one sitting, making them great favors. Easy to personalize and embellish too. I’m loving these papers from Creative Imaginations– so romantic and pretty!

Stop by the Sizzix booth #949 at the show. I’ll be there demoing all of the Sweet Treats dies:
Sunday         10-12
Monday        2-6
Tuesday       10-12
Wednesday  12-2
Here’s a look at what’s on my table…
See you in Anaheim!
If you are not able to be there, come virtually through the Live from CHA site! I’m giving away a free ticket to see what’s going on at the show through streaming video. The winner will be picked tomorrow so you still have a chance- leave a comment here before midnight tonight!

EDITOR’S UPDATE: Congrats! The winner of the Live from CHA craft kit and event ticket is Monika! Please contact me so I can get you the prize- EileenHull@aol.com. Thanks- hope you enjoy it 🙂 See you there…

CHA Sizzix Sneak Peek

14 Jan

Hi everyone- I am very excited! I get to give you a peek at my newest line of Sizzix dies being released at at CHA in a couple of weeks! I have been holed up in my studio all week making samples and just love what’s happening here.

First of all, I am working with papers from Creative Imaginations in the IOD line called Devotion. They are just beautiful. The only thing I don’t like is when I have to pick which side to use because I really like all of them! That almost never happens with double sided paper.
OK so here’s a look at the new Bigz Borders & Hydrangeas….
some Sizzlit Swirls…
… and the XL ScoreBoard Box with Lid, Cake Slice. …
I can think of so many ways to use these! What a fun party favor for any occasion where cake is served. You could even coordinate them with the colors/papers from the event. Stop by the Sizzix booth for a demo!
I think these dies are a lot of fun and hope you will too. OK, back to work!

CHA report

25 Jul

I really did try to blog from CHA (at least a couple of nights) but it was hot and I was tired. End of blog attempts…

CHA was a great show! My new Sizzix line, “It’s a Wrap”, was released. Beth Reames of the fabulous Sizzix art department really rocked the samples and had people lined up to look at them. Go Beth! It’s funny- we had a meeting at the January show and she said she wanted to use purple and gold for this line. Honestly purple is not one of my favorite colors and I was less than enthusiastic about these selections but I trusted her and it’s a winner! I also had the opportunity to speak at the Sizzix rep meeting and let them in on some ScoreBoard tips and get to meet the folks who are out there selling my stuff.

Karen Burniston and I had a great time teaching our Super Duet workshop. Special thanks to Cheryl Mezzetti and Marah Johnson for rolling up their sleeves and showing our students how to work with the fabulous Luminarte paint by Creative Imaginations. Big thanks to designer friends Ann Butler and Lisa Rojas who helped man the Big Shot stations.

More later- have to get to FedEx…

Melissa Samuels and Sneak Peek!!

8 Jul

The other night I was down in my studio making samples for CHA. I happened to notice a UStream event going on that looked interesting so I logged in. It was Melissa Samuels from the Art of Scrapbooking making a beautiful mini-album.

After the class I contacted her about the possibility of her carrying some of my products in her shop. I sent her some samples so she could test them out. And voila! She has already come up with some CUTE projects using my Flower, Layers #9 from the Fresh Vintage collection. See what Melissa made!

Also I don’t know if she is sold out, but if you are in the Richmond area and are looking for a fun retreat to attend, she’s hosting The Art of Scrapbooking Luxury Retreat Getaway on July 15-17, 2011. Sounds amazing. Too bad I will be on the road to Chicago… CHA or bust!

Here’s a sneak peek from the workshop project that Karen Burniston and I are teaching for Sizzix.

Lots of textures and shimmers and all kinds of techniques. Can’t wait!

Wedding Bell BLUES

14 Apr
Don’t worry- the wedding bell blues are a good thing! Those are the colors my daughter chose for her wedding this past Saturday. It was just about as perfect a day as anyone could hope for. No rain, good food, great family and friends and lots of fun!
cheap bridal veil
Here’s a picture of the seating chart I made from an old window.

You will need:

vintage window
old book pages
Mod Podge
ribbon
calligraphy marker
Sizzix Fresh Vintage flower dies by Eileen Hull (coming soon)
blue and white crepe paper
white tissue paper
brads
silver pipe cleaners
Sizzix Eclips machine
Starter & Rockin Janie Cartridge

blue paper in varying shades
silver pen
Instructions:
  1. Clean and sand edges of windows. Rub stain or ink over sanded edges for shabby look.
  2. Tear out pages from an old wedding etiquette book. Mod Podge pages to back side of glass, varying position of pages for interest. Tear strips if necessary to cover all areas of the glass. Use a brayer to work bubbles out and make paper smooth.
  3. Write message on ribbon with calligraphy marker. Embellish ribbon with Fresh Vintage flowers cut from crepe paper and tissue paper in various colors. Add bling, silver leaves and stacked book page hearts. Hot glue flowers and other embellishments to ribbon.
  4. Cut out desired heart shapes using Eclips die cut machine. Cut a slit in each heart from the bottom point to the middle of the heart. Put a piece of double sided tape on the bottom left side of the point. Fold flaps into center and trim off extra pieces to form a 3D heart.
  5. With a silver pen, write the name of each guest and their table number. Adhere to window with glue dots.
  6. Arrange hearts in alphabetical order leaving the names visible at the bottom of the heart.
  7. Enjoy the event! We sure did. 🙂

I messed up! My brain is still in wedding mode- I was supposed to post an Easter project today (not wedding), as part of the Designer Connection blog hop. Luckily, I happen to have this little basket made from a Dove soap box in the archives. For some other cool Easter projects, click forward or back on the Designer Connection button on the sidebar for a trip around our webring to see what this fabulous group has to show!
