Triple Play Blog Hop: Week 4- Thanksgiving Table Decor

25 Nov

On behalf of Karen, Brenda and myself, I want to wish you all a blessed holiday. Designers, we are so thankful for the chance to get to know you and appreciate all of your hard work and wonderful projects. To our viewers, your comments and feedback have been so positive thoughout this hop- thanks for supporting what we do! Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you have a little time to relax after the turkey and pie and enjoy these fabulous projects that our guest designers have cooked up for you! It’s the Triple Play Blog Hop Thanksgiving Edition 🙂 The featured die this week is the ScoreBoard Pro die: Frame & Frame Back w/Stand by Eileen Hull.

There are so many ways to go with this die. The frames nest inside each other so there are LOTS of them! You can layer them or use separately, making this die a great value. Each of the designers received a set of pieces to construct a frame. The decoration was completely up to them. Take a spin through the blogs to see amazingly clever ideas for using this versatile frame die.

I decided to do a Thanksgiving project. Unfortunately, this holiday seems to get lost sometimes, but it’s one of my favorites. I decided to add a burst of teal to the traditional autumn colors. Not only teal, but teal GLITTER! Yummy…

You will need:
Sizzix eclips
Seasonal eclips cartridge
Big Shot Pro die cut machine
Frame & Frame Back w/Stand by Eileen Hull Pro die
autumn colored papers
glitter cardstock
wired ribbon
rickrack
foamboard
double stick tape
glue dots
spray adhesive
gold Stickles
buttons and embellishments

NOTE: If you would like to cover the matboard piece with paper, coat the back of the paper with spray adhesive and place on matboard, then run through die cut machine. The pressure of the machine will ensure that the paper will stick well to the matboard and cut all pieces exactly the same size.

Instructions for “Give Thanks”:

  1. Use eclips machine to cut “Give Thanks” sentiment from brown.
  2. Adhere patterned paper to matboard and then die cut for the back support piece. Cut frame and flowers from aqua glitter chipboard. Add 1/2″ strips of scrap foamboard under the scalloped frame as spacers to give the project dimension.
  3. Make a ribbon rose by gathering both ends of one side of wire. Wind the ribbon in a spiral around the middle piece, speading it more open as you go. Secure the last section with a glue dot or glue gun under the rose.
  4. Add other embellishments and papers as desired.
  5. Secure easel stand to back of frame with strong double sided tape.

Coaster and Wine Glass charm:

  1. Cover the 4″ piece that the flowers are punched from with patterned paper (see directions above). Normally, this piece is just thrown away. But if you cover it with paper you can make a coaster! Or a set of them…
  2. Add gold Stickles dots around the border of the coaster.
  3. If desired, add a smaller piece of cork to the bottom of the matboard.
  4. With a piece of 16 gauge colored wire, twist into a spiral and start wrapping around the stem of the glass. Add glitter flower and continue twisting wire. Make another spiral at the end.

Placecard:

  1. Cut postage stamp frame from patterned paper covered matboard and smaller square from mat scraps. Cut an easel back piece, trimming down top to accommodate smaller size.
  2. Cover front of mat scrap with brown paper and center as desired inside frame. Write name on placecard.
  3. Add flower, leaves and mini rickrack to embellish.

Ready to check out the rest of the projects created with the frame die? Wherever you see the Triple Play logo, click on “hop ahead” or “hop back” to bring you to the next designers’ blog where there will be another cool project waiting. At any point if you want to return to the Sizzix blog you can hit the center “Sizzix” button or just click on the logo.
Have a relaxing turkey day! Thanks for hopping by 🙂
Leave a comment below and you could win a Sizzix Textured Boutique embossing machine! You have until next Wednesday- what would you use this die for?

Triple Play Blog Hop #3: Beauty Bloom Cupcake

18 Nov

Welcome to the third edition of the Sizzix Triple Play Blog Hop! And Happy Birthday to my friend Tiffany! Here’s a little cupcake for you along with wishes for a wonderful year…

This week we are working with Brenda Pinnick’s extremely versatile Beauty Bloom die. Many thoughts went through my mind for ways to use it. But I wound up using it as a cupcake topper. I need to get this die.

You will need:
Sizzix Originals Die – Flower, Beauty Bloom
Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die – Cupcake Holder, Ruffle
Big Shot
1 yard of ribbon
2 1/2″ STYROFOAM ball
straight pins
U-pin
Plaid Folk Art paint
brush
Sakura permanent marker
16 gauge wire
stem of millinery flowers
birthday stamp, ink and paper

Instructions:

  1. Die-cut and assemble cupcake die, cutting off one section to accomodate Styrofoam ball.
  2. Starting in the center, wrap ribbon around ball, twisting it as you go. Hold in place by inserting straight pins and cover while wrapping.
  3. Outline edges of petals with black marker. Paint in desired colors.
  4. Punch a hole in the middle of the petals, layer and insert small millinery flower stem in center.
  5. Anchor flower to top of cupcake with U-pin.
  6. Stamp birthday message on paper, trim to tag shape and punch hole at the top.
  7. Shape wire into a spiral by wrapping around a vase or glass. Coil the end of the wire.
  8. Add stamped image to wire and stick in top of cupcake.
Don’t forget to hop around to see all of the cool projects from the other designers on this hop. They are so clever! Apparently lots of people envisioned duck feet from the petals… not sure how I missed that!

Please join us next week- we designers never rest, even on Thanksgiving! Happy Turkey Day to all…

Triple Play Blog Hop #2: Pop-up Gift Box

11 Nov

Welcome to week 2 of our Triple Play Blog Hop!

I am a chicken. I’ve had Karen’s Twist Cube die since Summer CHA and was afraid to try it. But this is seriously the coolest die ever. Karen’s instructions are great and the cube went together quite easily. I can see all kinds of different ways to dress this up.

For my project this week, I decided to make a pop-up gift box for a very special person. I’m not sure who that person is yet, but if you get it, you’ll know that I love you. A LOT! It was one of those projects that take on a life of their own and you can’t stop fiddling with it. You know what I mean.

Love this Making Memories paper- have had it forever and decided it was time to break down and use it. Pink and green were the colors I picked when I was 13 and got my first “own” room. They are still going strong.

You will need:

Sizzix Bigz XL Die – Cube, Twist 3-D (Pop-Up)
Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die – Memo Holder
Big Shot die cut machine
green matboard
pink paint
Blumenthal Lansing buttons
lace
doily stickers
ribbon
Making Memories paper
fleece flower
cool button
glue
doublestick tape
brad
Queen and Company felt vine border

The twist cube is 3″ square and my ScoreBoards Memo Holder measures 3 1/4″ square so I decided to use the memo holder as a base and add the cube to it. First I made the Twist Cube which, by the way, is an amazing feat of engineering by Karen! I added a fleece flower and blingy button I purchased in NY this past weekend to the top of the cube to open it with.

I cut the ScoreBoard Memo Holder out from green matboard. I decided to paint the inside a light pink after botching up an attempt at stamping.  Some of the paint somehow got splotched on the front and so I did some dry brushing of pink paint to blend it in and make it kind of shabby, which I actually like better than my original plan. A happy little accident!

I added green felt vine by Queen and Co. to the front and inside of the folder. I also used a doily sticker as a stencil and stippled white pigment ink over it for a subtle background inside the folder and also inked white around the front edges. To secure the front and back sides together, I cut a strip of paper measure 3/4″ x 7″ and used it as a bellyband to secure the front and back flaps of the case together. I added some cool lace ribbon found on a side trip while taking my daughter back to college.

The cube was secured to the middle section of the folder with a brad so it actually can spin . I added 4U stickers, some more felt vine and lace at the top. I tied a ribbon on as a handle and that was it!

Make sure to click “hop forward” or “hop back” on the Triple Play logo and visit each of the participating designers’ blogs to see what they have created for this week’s challenge. I can’t wait to see!

Iit’s a big weekend here. My annual Barn Sale starts tomorrow and we are busy filling the place up with cool crafts and getting ready for the crowds. Have a great weekend everyone!

Triple Play Blog Hop Week 1- Going to the Chapel

4 Nov

Hi friends 🙂 Welcome to the first round of the Triple Play Blog Hop! No one is more excited than I am to see what all these amazing and talented designers created using my ScoreBoard house die as a base. So here we go…

My daughter Jessica is getting married in April so I decided to make a keepsake for her. The church is created in blue, silver and white- her wedding colors. I put a slot in the roof so I can add my spare change for unexpected expenses (lots of them ahead, I’m sure!) Here’s how I did it…

You will need:
#65279; Sizzix Scoreboards Pro Die – House, 3D, by Eileen Hull
Sizzix 12×12 matboard, white
Sizzix Big Shot Pro die cutting machine

Swiss dots embossing folder
craft knife
American Crafts glitter cardstock- aqua
Blumenthal Lansing buttons
Zip Dry Paper Glue by Beacon Adhesives
silver glitter pipe cleaners
laser cut paper clipping
ScoreTape or brads (medium size)
Stickles- silver
font- Mandolyn by Duetica

Instructions:

  1. Cut house from white matboard on Big Shot Pro.
  2. Lay the main structure inside the embossing folder and run it through the machine again. Match up the design and repeat until the surface of the church has been embossed.
  3. Cut an arched opening above the door. I used a button as a template and cut with a craft knife (I happened to find a bag of laser cuts in my stash and one just happened to fit in the doorway and have a lacy cutout at the top- perfect!) Use whatever you have on hand to embellish the door.
  4. Assemble house using tape and/or brads. Turn it around so the windows are in the back.
  5. Center the bump-out piece on the front and adhere to the main structure with ScoreTape.
  6. Create the steeple by cutting two additional bump-outs from aqua glitter chipboard (LOVE this stuff). The roof angle was determined by tracing the outline of the main roof over both bumpouts and cutting them out.
  7. Adhere steeple parts to each other with double stick tape.
  8. Cut additional bump-out roof and adhere to top of steeple.
  9. Poke a hole in the middle of the steeple roof and insert cross created from 2 silver pipe cleaners.
  10. Cut 6 pieces of fence. Adhere 3 pieces together with ScoreTape. Repeat.
  11. Add logo artwork to button and accent with silver Stickles. Adhere logo to center of church front.
  12. Cut roof from silver metallic matboard and emboss using Tim Holtz’s Notebook Page Texture Fade. If desired, go over edges with a silver pen.
  13. Add desired accents to the vignette according to event or season. I made a mini stand-up Jess and Jason from a photo. I cut up another spare bump-out roof and taped that to the back of the photo so the photo stands up.
This is the back view minus the steeple- it doubles as their first home! I added glitter windows and the happy couple again.
This photo is one of my favorites. It was taken on the day of Jason’s graduation from the Coast Guard Academy in May. He and Jess met while singing in the Glee Club, then she graduated and went off to her first assignment. My love and wishes for a happy life together and house with white picket fence, Jess and Jason!
In the process of creating this project, I designed a wedding logo which will be used for Save the Date cards and other stationery items, i.e. envelope seals, tags, etc. I have been doing some work for a really cool company called Duetica who graciously allowed me to use one of their beautiful fonts to create this logo. I’ll give you a hint- the cakestand is composed of a letter. Leave me a comment if you can figure it out. I will mail a random commenter a special Sizzix prize!
Glad you could stop by. Comments really make our day so don’t be shy 🙂 Now hop forward or back to see the next cool project!
