Wedding Gift Card Box

22 Apr

I am linking up today with a group of designer friends at the the Designer Crafts Connection.  Just click on the link and it will take you around the webring to see all of the participating designers’ blogs. Fun!

I decided to make a Wedding Gift Card Box- the season is upon us! We have two weddings in May and we will probably give each of the new couples a check . That always seems so impersonal though…  if I make a pretty box for it, it seems a little more special.

I trimmed the box with some of the beautiful lace available from Decorative Trimmings. We were allowed to select trim from their site and I can hardly wait to go around and see what everyone else created.

As you might guess I used one of my Sizzix ScoreBoards boxes as a base for the project. 🙂 This die is the perfect size for a gift card. I also made a small card that is the size of an Artist Trading Card- 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.

656546You will need:

  • assorted trim from Decorative Trimmings
  • spray adhesive, crystal glitter, Velcro closure
  • ThermoWeb iCraft tape
  • ThermoWeb adhesive sheets
  • Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die – Box w/Scallop Flap & Flowers
  • Sizzix Little Sizzles – 6″ x 13″ Mat Board Pack, 6 White Sheets
  • Sizzix Big Shot

How to assemble the box:

  1. Line die up with matboard to determine where the flap will be when you cut it out. Mark area on matboard in pencil.
  2. Trim adhesive sheet to size to cover the box flap. Place adhesive sheet on matboard within penciled area. Remove release paper from adhesive and lay layers of lace and trim on adhesive covered matboard. Carefully position matboard on die with lace side facing die lining the flap up with lace. Keep lines straight.
  3. Die cut box from matboard.
  4. There will be open areas of adhesive. Take some crystal glitter and sprinkle on the lace. The glitter will adhere to the adhesive and add a pretty sparkle! Shake off excess glitter.DT-8
  5. Punch a hole on both sides of the top flap hinge and thread trim through for a handle. Knot ends to secure inside box.
  6. Add Velcro closure on inside top of flap and opposing piece on the V of the box. You may want to staple the Velcro down so it stays in place.
  7. Place iCraft tape on both side tabs and adhere box together.DT-6
  8. Die cut an Artist Trading Card from matboard. Add embossing and ink color over embossed Congratulations. Glue lace to card to coordinate with the box.DT-3
  9. That’s it! Insert your check, cash or gift card and wish the happy couple well!DT-8
